There are two prime possibilities. The most likely is that the leads going to the sensor are frayed or damaged. I would inspect these thoroughly. I'd also use electrical spray cleaner to clean the plug really well. The second and less likely cause may be that your original sensor was truly bad. And the aftermarket sensor you bought doesn't work well. It's been reported hundreds of times on this forum and others that some aftermarket brand cam sensors do not function well on PT Cruisers. For myself, this is one of the few times I will only use an OEM Mopar brand replacement. If I inspected the leads and could find no problems, my next move would be to install a Mopar brand sensor.

I have a 2006 pt cruiser 4 cyclinder. The check engine light came and it went into safety mode . the car wouldn't go any more then 25 MPR and my RMP hit 3 to 4. I checked the codes and it read that it was my can shaft sensor. Okay well I changed that. And it doing the same thing again. Someonw help me pls. Could it be my 02 sensors . I've cleaned my spark plugs n all. Any ideas . I dont understand.
