Yes brakes or wheel bearing, I've seen rear drum brakes rust off the metal frame. Does the squeek change with pressure on the brake pedal while moving, or pull on the parking brake slowly to see if it changes it tune.

I will try the brake test, altho don't think it is connected to brakes. 156,000 miles on car. this noise happens on every little bump, regardless of speed. car in great shape other than the noise, very annoying!

Noises and location of noises are not always as easy as one would think? I often get the customer that say they hear it on the drivers side and it ends being on the passengers side.

In this case I would recommend to get the rear up safely and securely on jack stands and get under there and start doing some careful inspection which include tugging pulling and pushing on anything that would normally have some movement during driving.

If it moves than it has a potential for making the wrong noises!

You "tried" what?
Did you actually disassemble and inspect the brakes?
My grinding sound was only ONE....of 8 brake pads!
It was down to metal on metal!

wow, sorry soonercruiser, didn't mean to upset you- I "tried" what joex suggested as to pulling on e brake while driving and also listenening for any change in sound while applying brakes. my mechanic will look at brakes today so rest assured your suggestion will be checked.
