Need someone to tell us where to go sort of.

Hi all,
I know the topic is a loaded question but here goes.
My wife and I are planning on cruising South to Huntsville, AL to visit family at the end of this month.
We will be traveling on I-81 and anticipate ending our driving for the day somewhere between Marion, VA and the Bristol/Kingsport area of Tennessee. Anyone out there familiar with the area and can recommend a clean and safe place to park the Cruiser and of course safe for us too, to spend the night? Terry was looking at the Microtel in Kingsport. Also, we heard this is NASCAR country and there may be events in the area over the Memorial Day weekend and we would like to avoid the crowds if at all possible.
Any information, suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
