RobinJoe-
Are you on a mountaintop somewhere with no TV or radio? Do you know of hospitals with no power that have yet to be evacuated? It's the liberal media? Do they fabricate pictures of dead bodies?
Forget it - I'm disturbing your fantasy.

quicksilverdon,

This tragedy is a failure on everyone's part. How can a governor and a mayor order mandatory evacuation of city with a substantial population of poor, old, and sick and yet make absolutely no provision to get them out of there or take care of them. This whole thing sickens me beyond description, but there is no time for this bs over who should have done what. Get those people out of there, get the bodies cleaned up and then we can beat each other up over who's to blame.

Espresso,

Where you headed? I'd like to send a note of congratulations to your new adopted country on acquiring such a fine citizen and wish them well.

Hi Don,

I don't think I said that there were no tragedies or dead bodies. As a matter of fact, I think I specificaly said that this was "human tragedy of the worst kind".

If you are talking about Charity Hospital, attempts to evacuate were halted by thugs shooting at them. Of course, that's not the thug's fault, I guess it's the Bush administration who's to blame. How were the planners supposed to know there would be lunatics like that there?

I didn't refer to any "liberal" media, the media on the left and the right do the same. The topic is "hot" enough wothout having to inject malice.

Listen, I'm not trying to defend everything that's going on. I'm sure mistakes are being made, and people are dieing as a result. This is inevitable with a disaster of this scope.

I just don't understand why people have to come on a forum here and bash the trained people doing their best in the worst of conditions.

For example, to say that the mercy ship from VA is a bad idea is very short sighted of you. The relief and recovery operations are going to take months. Planes, helicopters and trucks are there and have been there all week.

Has the response been "adequate"? I don't know, and despite what you see on TV, neither do you.

Really? So Our president saying on National TV "The results are not acceptable" means nothing to you? You say "Has the response been "adequate"? I don't know, and despite what you see on TV, neither do you."

Obviously YOU have no clue do you?

Our president admitted failure. Which he NEVER HAS DONE!! We failed our own country. He admitted it. Wether you admit it or not is your own problem. Dont start bashing people because of your ignorance, robinjoe.

Sorry, I forgot to add. Apparently the Mayor of the city doesnt know what is going on either, even though he said that "they don't have a clue what's going on down here". I guess you know better right?

I wonder why this hasn't been reported in the media:

"WASHINGTON (8/31/2005) — More than 11,000 Army and Air National Guard members and 7,200 active-duty troops, mostly Navy, are supporting hurricane relief operations along the Gulf Coast, and 10,000 more National Guard troops are expected to join the effort within the next 48 hours, Defense Department officials said today."

"About one-third of the added troops will be military police, to help civilian law enforcement authorities guard critical facilities, prevent looting, apprehend curfew violators and assist in law-and-order enforcement, Blum said."

We ALL know about the troops. But if they were not sent there to BE food, then for the most part they are worthless. They need food & water. Not troops standing around & sitting in the back of FedEx trucks.

Once again cameras do not lie. Harry Connick JR actually DROVE to the convention center this morning & gave out water to people. Why the hell cant the red cross, or coast guard? They say "oh it's to dangerous".
yesterday in teh middle of New orleans 3 trucks showed up with porta-potties.....OK, but no foo or water..Humm.

But lets figure this out. We have 130Kish troopps in Iraq for NO reason. Yet we can only get 40K for the ENTIRE gulf coast. We had about 50K troops in Iraq just about overnight. They are moving in 1400 at a time to teh gulf coast...Whoo f***ing Hoo.

But like the President himself said "The results are not acceptable". You can search teh net all you want for info. All you need to do is watch C-Span, MSNBC, or god forbid FOXNews. You can try to back teh president all you want. But when he says "WE HAVE FAILED", but you keep insisting on putting up numbers of troops there. It makes you look rather stupid.

Just deal with the fact that YOUR president said that they f***ed up. Why can you not live with that?

Obviously it was reported - you found it.
The point is, because you seemed to have missed it:
TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.
"...are expected to join the effort within the next 48 hours..."
48 hours can be counted in many lives...

Agree, agree, agree. Just talking the other night with the wife about the buses picking people up at the dome to take them to Houston. Couldn't they have been loaded up with water/food? Can't they air drop skids on the roads? As others said, we help others faster then our own.
Agree Bigdogdad-- Why couldn't those empty buses have been filled with law enforcement, guards, etc., dropped off and THEN load the hurricane victims in them?[:I]

I bet Cindy Sheehan is just chomping at the bit for camera time on this one!

Oh sorry, I just saw this. But as for the country i'm moving to. They are more than happy to have me. As I have fought for my country & am now a 100% disabled veteran because of it. I have sacrificed more than you will ever know. So they know I know what dedication is. How about yourself. What meaningful contribution have you given to your country? I have been in & seen these kinds of things in MANY countries first hand. How about you?

Espresso,

I am also a veteran (USN, retired) as well as spending the first 18 years of my life as a military brat. I too have seen this and worse in many countries throughout my entire life. You want to start comparing sacrifices, we will. One thing separates us though - I won't turn my back on this country because my candidate didn't win an election (he didn't). Well, actually, maybe two things separate us - I can spell and puntuate a sentence.

By the way, which country is so happy to get you? You never said!
