And this spin is coming out now? All it would have taken is a media report - "FEMA ready to help, Gov says NO" at the time. Yeah, I know it's a liberal media, but Faux News would have carried it. A FEMA head - or the president - with help ready to go should have been screaming if that were the case - lives were at stake and lost.

From what I heard reported, there were not sufficient people (troops) on site until Friday. Why weren't more forces onsite sooner?
So when did Gov say "please"?
At least there is some agreement that the response was poor - I heard Bush say "good job, Brownie" to the FEMA putz who seemed to think he had done enough.

It seems to me that the truth is now coming out in spite of the liberal spin of the media that we were bombarded with before, during and after Katrina. Like I said you lefty Bush bashers may not have been prepared for Katrina but you were ready to heap the blame on Bush.

You leftys love polls. I don't think you will like this one. It was done by your beloved Communist News Network CNN. Looks like once again your not in sync with America like the last few elections.

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 609 adults taken September 5-6 shows:

Blame Game --

13% said George W. Bush is "most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane";
18% said "federal agencies";
25% said "state and local officials";
38% said "no one is to blame";
6% had no opinion.

29% said that "top officials in the federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired";
63% said they should not;
8% had no opinion.

When you say "Ms. Procrastination" I assume you mean the governor, Ms. Blanco. If so, I made note of that earlier.

HOW DARE YOU!

Even other right wingers are calling the president and administration out on this one.

Maybe the fed gov't shouldn't be involved in responding to 9/11. They should wait for New York to ask for help.

The fact is, help was requested on August 27th.
When the Bush crime overlord finally showed up, he made it a photo op. Hate to see him have to leave his record long vacation.

Very sad to see that Canadians made it down to help before most Nat'l Guard members.

You guys must listen Rush Slimbaugh and Hannity. How about Scotty "the parrot" Mcclellan(sp)? "We're not playing the blame game." Funny how the right never wants to play the blame game when they are the ones to blame.

You good ol' boys are still blaming Clinton for things.

Remember the haircut in Air Force 1 that help up traffic? The righties ranted over that for weeks. Turned out it was false!

How about the damage to the White House by Clinton and friends? Turns out it was fine.

What is it going to take to prove to you that these Republicans are the WORST administration in the history of this country.

BTW, Exxon/Mobil has just made more net income in the last quarter than any company in American history. They net $110 million a day.
They also received huge tax cuts from guess who? OIL BOY!
Wait till you get your heating bills this winter.

You should be ashamed of voting for that criminal.

Still waiting to hear what the right has done right the last 5 years.

And you do it all in the name of the lord. YOU MAKE ME SICK!

And see, no one can understand why i hate talking politics......

I guess what i will say is, if we went into iraq to get oil, why have out prices gone up? Would'nt they have gone down, common logic says that they would, if the traders on the stock market accually thought this is the whole reason for war... I think we would be paying less....

I can also say another thing, if bush is getting so much money of this so called "oil war" and it is a "criminal" act than why isn't the same people who looked into clintion when he was screwing white house interns is his spare time, doing anything?

And to add on to it,
In reality, the Iraq war had little to do with oil, if the U.S simply wanted to use war to get free or cheaper oil, we could have kept Kuwait's oil fields for ourselves back in 1991. Heck, in 1991 the U.S could have moved it's 550,000 troops into Iraq, after all they had no army left to oppress us right? Why have we been paying market prices for Iraqi oil ever sence. Besides, if all we wanted was cheaper oil, the U.S could have given into demands from france and germany to lift economic sanctions on iraq in the 90's. Also, if the U.S and bush administrations wanted to use military might to conquer and "steal" oil, it would have been a lot cheaper to seize mexican or venezuelan oil fields.

And saddam was no threat? Where do you people get this stuff?

Saddam supported worldwide terrorism, by giving up to $25,000 to familys of suicide bombers to encourge them, and shelterd members of the Abu Nidal Org. and the PLF a group headed by Abu Abbas. Remember him? He hijacked a cruise ship and killed a american citizen Leon Klinghoffer.

So there is mt rant, i don't totally support the president, but i fail to see reasons for the far left to be making these false accusations about the war.

As far as i am concerned, his border policy sucks, more and more illegal are fileing over every day, and the medicare and social securty systems are all screwed up. So we have our problems....

( i must give credit to Mark W. Smith)

You people are just so boring after a while.... and pathetic for using such a tragity for a reason to blast the president.You make me sick. If there is anywone to blame, it's the french, for buliding new orleans in the first place. The is a Disaster folks... No One is at fault for this. ERRRRRR

And howard dean has officaly made the democrats as look stupid as ever, why do you guys keep him as the DMC Chairman. He is a fool.....

How can you bring race into this, 70% of New Orleans population is black, of course more are going to die than white people, ther are more of them, i think jesse jackson is slipping him money or something because how could you go up there and make a complete fool of the democratic party. I have great respect for democrats, such as John Kerry, Joe Liberman (spelling), and Westly Clark. But this man just makes you guys look stupid. Dump him...
George Buch has said some stupid things, but nothing as stupid as "race had a great deal with who lived and died"

The initial response from all the finger pointers out there is always to blame the president.

But as the facts are comming out (and they are FACTS, not "spin"). It is becomming more and more evident that the problem was at the local level where the governor didn't want food and water at the Superdome or the convention center because she didn't want it to become a "magnet".

She wanted the people to leave so she kept the Red Cross out.

The problem with New Orleans is not that there wasn't enough Government involvemnent, it's that there was too much. And that goes back to the 19th century.

Whenever there is a problem, we'll just go to our favorite Federal "cash cow" and milk some money out of her. If the government didn't bail out New Orleans every time they had problems with the levees, they never would have stayed in that location. After the first couple of floods it would have been abandoned a century ago.

Of course, now it's gotten to be such a large industrial center, we can't abandon it.

IMHO We should bulldoze the entire residential districts and make it a park or return it to wetlands. The commercial district can remain because it can be safely evacuated in the event of an emergency.

Read below & make up your own minds!!!!

A SAD STATE OF CORRUPT LOCAL GOVERNMENT LOOKING FOR A HAND OUT.

Politics over duty

This is a post from a fellow over in Merritt Is, FL, a reporter who's been researching what went on before the storm hit

I think all of Nagin's pomp and posturing is going to bite him hard in the near future as the lies and distortions of his interviews are coming to light.

On Friday night before the storm hit Max Mayfield of the National Hurricane Center took the unprecedented action of calling Nagin and Blanco personally to plead with them to begin MANDATORY evacuation of New Orleans and they said they'd take it under consideration. This was after the NOAA buoy 240 miles south had recorded 68' waves before it was destroyed.

President Bush spent Friday afternoon and evening in meetings with his advisors and administrators drafting all of the paperwork required for a state to request federal assistance (and not be in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act or having to enact the Insurgency Act).

Just before midnight Friday evening the President called Governor Blanco and pleaded with her to sign the request papers so the federal government and the military could legally begin mobilization and call up.

He was told that they didn't think it necessary for the federal government to be involved yet. After the President's final call to the governor she held meetings with her staff to discuss the political ramifications of bringing federal forces. It was decided that if they allowed federal assistance it would make it look as if they had failed so it was agreed upon that the feds would not be invited in.

Saturday before the storm hit the President again called Blanco and Nagin requesting they please sign the papers requesting federal assistance , that they declare the state an emergency area, and begin mandatory evacuation.

After a personal plea from the President, Mayor Nagin agreed to order an evacuation, but it would not be a full mandatory evacuation, and the governor still refused to sign the papers requesting and authorizing federal action.

In frustration the President declared the area a national disaster area before the state of Louisiana did so he could legally begin some advanced preparations. Rumor has it that the President's legal advisers were looking into the ramifications of using the insurgency act to bypass the Constitutional requirement that a state request federal aid before the federal government can move into state with troops - but that had not been done since 1906 and the Constitutionality of it was called into question to use before the disaster.

Throw in that over half the federal aid of the past decade to New Orleans for levee construction, maintenance, and repair was diverted to fund a marina and support the gambling ships.

Toss in the investigation that will look into why the emergency

preparedness plan submitted to the federal government for funding and published on the city's website was never implemented and in fact may have been bogus for the purpose of gaining additional federal funding as we now learn that t he organizations identified in the plan were never contacted or coordinating into any planning - though the document implies that they were.

The suffering people of New Orleans need to be asking some hard questions as do we all, but they better start with why Blanco refused to even sign the multi-state mutual aid pack activation documents until Wednesday which further delayed the legal deployment of National Guard from adjoining states.

Or maybe ask why Nagin keeps harping that the President should have commandeered 500 Greyhound busses to help him when according to his own emergency plan and documents he claimed to have over 500 busses at his disposal to use between the local school busses and the city transportation busses - but he never raised a finger to prepare them or activate them.
