Default O'reilly gone liberal??

Let me preface this by saying I believe I am a political moderate who tunes into various right/left pundits in the media. But I was floored when I heard Bill O'reilly question the validity of the "free market" gas and oil industry practices. He even went as far as calling for a "gas free" sunday and a 20% reduction in oil co. profit margins. Has O'reilly gone liberal or is he just pandering to the suffering of our most poor, dark skinned, underadvantaged citizens in this country? Is seeing these people for the first time who, for the most part have been forgotten and pushed aside, actually making him rethink his postions? I'm not really sure, but it is refreshing to hear someone like him questioning the "staus quo".

I'm basicly a person that believes in the "Free Market" system but I also believe in laws against price gouging and profiteering.

If the authorities can come down on a conveiniance store for charging too much for a bottle of water during a crisis, the big boy, oil companies should get the spotlight shined on them, too. (Don't give me the "Bush = big oil" story. This is a state and/or local issue.)

I believe it is gouging at this time. There's no reason for a station to increase it's prices .30 per gallon in less than 12 hours.

Here in Cali, where we get zero oil and zero gas from the southern region, prices went up overnight by an average of .06. We have no lines, no crisis, plenty of crappy Cali 91 around. Plain and simple price gouging. But who's going to stop them. Nobody will cut back and no one in government will step up and do something to bring back competition to the market. [xx(]

That is one thing i hate is price gouging, it pisses me off that i have to pay more for gas just because there is an excuse to raise prices.

O'Reilly calls it like it is or he sees it and is neither liberal or conservative. Most of the time I agree with him, but sometimes not. His show is always thought-provoking and entertaining though and he covers a variety of topics and has guests of all different persuasions and will NOT let them "spin." I love his show. Apparently a lot of other people do, too, as he regularly beats the pants off the competition in his time slot. I think the government could institute price controls at least temporarily and keep a good eye on the oil companies but I would also like to see them eliminate state and federal taxes on gas as well. We are getting gouged ALL the time there- to the tune of about 45 cents a gallon or more. Another thing they could do to bring prices down is not require so many different "blends" to satisfy the environmentalists who have pushed through laws that run up the prices and stopped new refineries from being built and drilling in Alaska. Government needs to quit catering to these pressure environmental fringe groups because it is PC, ESPECIALLY in California! We reap what we sow.

Maybe. NOT!
Altho I did have on the O'Reilly Factor, and another commentator was interviewing the Canadian ambassador, who spoke of the help Canada has and is giveing to Katrina efforts.
A search and rescue team from Vancouver was first on the scene - ahead of any US team, and the commentator said that was embarrassing - something O'Reilly never would've said..
