Two issues have divided America more than anything since the Civil War. 1963..the ban of prayer in public schools and 1973..Roe vs. Wade . God, and life. A human beings right to not recognize one and to take the other.

Maybe someone can enlighten me.
What law legalized abortion?

Joe
History/Facts About Roe vs. Wade:

"Jane Roe" (whose real name was Norma McCorvey) was a woman who challenged the criminal abortion laws in Texas. These laws forbade abortion except in cases where the mother's life was in danger; claiming they were unconstitutional.
Henry Wade was the Texas Attorney General who defended the anti-abortion law.

Dates Argued: December 13, 1971 and October 11, 1972
Opinion Date: January 22, 1973

Sarah Weddington argued the cause for Roe twice. Jay Floyd argued the cause for Texas in the first argument. Robert C. Flowers argued the cause for Texas in the second argument.

The conclusion held that a woman's right to an abortion falls within the right to privacy protected by the Fourteenth Amendment.
The vote was:

Majority: Blackmun(for the Court), Brennan, Powell, Marshall T.
Concurring: Burger, Douglas, Stewart
Dissenting: Rehnquist, White B.

Interesting sidenote: Since the decision, Norma Mcorvey has since regretted her decision to get an abortion and has become an outspoken critic of abortion.

Personally, I am against abortion but consider it a personal issue, and I am very much in favor of responsible behavior, including birth control. Many churches do not teach birth control is a sin. I have known a few women who got an abortion and every one of them suffered immeasurably psychologically as a direct result of this decision. The ones I know of either were ( two are deceased) or are alcoholics. There is a real price inside a woman's heart for this decision that isn't discussed by the "prochoice" people but it is there, and it is very sad.
We were both responding at the same time. To Your post...Amen. And as the male in a abortion decision...the damage is on both sides. There is healing, that I can attest to.

OK, so I see a law in Texas that outlawed abortion, but I still don't see any law that legalized it.

Roe vs Wade used the right to privacy to legitimatize abortion!

If that isn't judicial activism, I don't know what is. That's the difference between a Conservative and a Liberal. A Liberal has the arrogancy to say that what (s)he thinks is right and that what democratically established laws say are irrelevant.

Instead of changing a law which prohibits abortion through proper channels (the legislature), they wait until they get a favorable judiciary and force their agenda. And with the liberals teaching law these days, finding a liberal judiciary isn't difficult.
