I did, too. My wife dug around the internet after she got to thinking - why haven't we heard about a battle over a refinery somewhere? Someone like O'Reilly or Lumpbaugh would scream about it...

I also did some looking and found that the cost to the oil industry to build an new refinery would be in the billions for just one. It would take years just to do the enviromental studies required by overly complex rules and regulations which seem to be there to hamper production. Your girl Hillary wants to put more taxes on oil companies which will not make the price go down. The last new refinery built was in 1975. Cleary we need more.

1) They could afford the billions.
2) it'll take forever if they don't ever start applying
3) Hillary says lots of things - most not worth listening to. She's bought and paid for.

Basically, you're confirming what my wife found - the oil companies haven't tried to open a new refinery. As I concluded, they don't have any incentive to increase supply...

Hey retro, is oil production in Texas increasing or decreasing? From what I've heard the last big discovery of oil since the 70's is the deep water source in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico that Chevron found. Did you know that back in the 60's America was exporting oil. If you can't see the writing on the walls, then it's time to get some glasses.

Doubt you'll hear back from Retro - she hasn't posted in months & months.
Dunno why she stopped posting, but she was 100% behind Bush, maybe that tired her out...

Let me get this straight. Its the oil companies fault they don't produce more gas and the excessive regulations have nothing to do with it?
As far as finding more oil here. Again they have located sources of oil but because of enviromental extremists they are not able to pump it.

So folks here are mildly annoyed as US gas prices continue to move toward world prices?

Just be glad you're driving a 20+ mpg PT (hey, MOST of us manage to get 20+ mpg).

Think of the fun they are having on BigThirstySUVForum.com

Corporate America owns us. The politicians are there just to to keep it that way. At the end of the day its not the environment. Its not the general public. Its MONEY that concerns them the most. The wealthy support politicians who are going to cater to them once they get into office.

Glad you mentioned these people. These are the people you want to thank at the gas station for the high gas prices. MR. F350 CREW CAB 4x4 and no use for it but to look good. Listen, I drive a gas tanker for a living and if I get one more idiot blaming me for the high prices, I'm going to become the poster child for Toyota's Prius.

Angry Re: Politicians and Gas Prices

Welllll.....I've stayed out of this until now. But, now that QuickDon and the group are weighing in....I just can't stand it!!!
As Expresso said...they're all greedy sons of a bitches! (or something like that) There's no sense in pointing fingers, unless we point them in all directions, including back at our selves.
You can blame the greedy politicians, maybe even say Republicans are in the pockets of big business. But, refineries stopped being built in the 70's. What party was in charge of Congress for over 40 years? (Who stopped it...Democrats) When the Republican Congress attempted to get together a comprehensive energy bill, who stopped it? (Democrats) So who's the obstructionist here?
Democrats are in the pockets of the law community and education (almost 50% of congress are lawyers by training, by the way). Wonder why no tort reform to help out health care costs, reference malpractice costs (my area of expertise)? Wonder why public schools are getting worst?
**But again; there's plenty of blame to go around! If we had comprehensive approach energy bill, we'd have a little more drilling; lots more refining; incentives to private industry on alternative fuels (untapped coal & oil shale fields in the upper northwest that no one is talking about). But there are just too many pockets to be filled, in both political parties! So what do we get???? Stalemate, and blame game!
Actually I think that we worry too much! The U.S will always find a way to be OK! When "the chips are down", we are a very resourceful and inventive people. Eventually the free market $$ will win out! (Unless Hillary is elected - we'll be socialist) I would worry more about countries that have no more creative ability than to copy what we do...like China & Russia, and the third world.....they would grind to a halt.
I'm a big Sci-Fi fan! And I really do think that we will have to go to the stars, eventually - even before our renewable energies go bust! (unless GOD recalls us early like the Ford Pinto)
Take a look at the sky on a dark, clear night! He made all that for us! ......just to look at??? I think not.
By the way...anybody seen any UFOs lately?
