Cruise Ship Facts

You may be surprised (Like I was) of some of these interesting facts about Cruise ships.
Did you know that some of the best restaurants in the world are on Cruise Ships? They employ only the top chiefs and pay near $200,000 a year to head Chiefs. Here are some facts that will amaze you, whether you have been on a Cruise or not.

The Norwegian Star weighs 92,000 tons and has 810 miles of electric cable and 65 miles of pipe just within her haul alone. There are 835 exterior windows and 1,834 interior doors. The crew consists of 1,100 people coming from 64 different countries. With just over 2, 200 guests, that is a 2 to 1 guest crew ratio. (So service is pretty good)
She has 14 floors with 12 elevators, 4 swimming pools, 2 water slides, 10 Jacuzzis, 13 bars and lounges, 10 restaurants, basketball court, 2 golf driving nets, a movie theater, library, game room, casino, spa, complete fitness center, gift shop, internet service, photo department, art director, shore excursion desk, 24 hour room service (no extra charge) Live music in all lounges, Las Vegas shows nightly, sports bar and one Helicopter pad. .
The ship goes though 15,000 lbs of beef, 11,000 lbs of poultry, 10,000 lbs of sea food, 38,000 of vegetables, 30,000 lbs of fresh fruit, 15,000 lbs of flour, 35,000 eggs, in just one 7 day cruise!!!!!!!!!
The average weight a person gains that does not exercise on board is 10-15 lbs. in one week. For the record I worked out an hour a day and gained 8 lbs.

The engine puts out 79,800 HP at a top speed of 25 knots (not very fast)

Where was your trip to/from Gary? I love those trips. Plan on going again sometime this year. The food, entertainment and scenery are great.

We leave from Port Canerval February 10th for a week to the Westeran Carribean on the Carnival GLORY. We will be onboard over Balentine's Day. We have been on 9 cruises in 4 1/2 years and enjoy the FOOD & SHOWS as much as anything.

Gary, glad you were able to enjoy yourself, I tend to stay away from the Casino as it isn't my THING.

When I was single I went on a cruise ( and no I didn't have to row)
and it was the best vacation I ever had. My wife is kind of "claustrophobic" (sorry for the spelling). She won't go
Glad you had a great time

We have been on quite a few cruises over the years because we got them from manufacturers we deal with as "perks" for level of sales of their products. I have truly enjoyed every one, but I enjoy going anywhere that I don't have to cook it or clean it up! It has been really neat for us to get to see so many places we would never have gone. I think my favorite island in the Caribbean is Antigua, and snorkling off St. John's Bay beach on St. John is just the best, too. They have a "snorkel trail" underwater that you follow, and look at the coral and fish all labeled through the crystal clear water! That beach and a large part of that island is a national park. One of the most gratifying cruises we went on was one we had three trips coming, and we took us, an elderly salesman and his wife working for us then and our daughter and her boyfriend. The three generations had more fun together and the old guy and his wife enjoyed it as perhaps their very last trip together, one they could never have afforded, because he died about a year later. They were originally from California and the old salesman's wife had once been a showgirl in the MOVIES as a Goldwyn Girl, and they had a salute to Goldwyn show on the cruise! I introduced her to one of the young showgirls and told her she had been a real Goldwyn Girl, and the little girl was just thrilled to meet her, and although the elderly lady acted a little embarrassed I think she was pleased- she was still a very pretty lady and so sweet. That trip was magical on many levels.

We flew into LA, and went down to Pueto Viarta, Alcalpulco area. It sure wasnt't cheap for me, spent more than I did on my Cruiser ($23,000) I did book five cabins though, I brought the whole family, parents, girl friends. The coolest thing we did was a sport called "zip lining", in one of the ports we stopped and we drive off road vehicles an hour up the mountains, went on donkeys an hour and ended up really high. They had these cables that went across these huge canyons and we were in a harness and pully. then we ZIPPED across these cables about 800 feet high over water falls, gorges and jungle. It was the wildest thing I've ever done. Gary[?]
p.s. I did wet my pants though [|)]
