The only thing wrong with our military is the civilian command it is under.
We used to elect candidates who served our country in the military - now we don't seem to care whether a candidate is a vetran.
(The last one was Bush Sr.)

I think it depends on the civilian and whether his party is pro military or anti military. We currently have a pro military leader and congress.

Well, if Rumsfeld is allowed to remain in charge, I shudder to think who an anti-military leader and congress would have.[:0]
His discarding/over-ruling of the advice of those with experience (Powell, among others) has proven to have been unwise.

Before this becomes another thread moved to the 'endless, pointless political debate forum'

Here is an older tale in much the same vein: (Different war, different army, same simple request)

(Please forgive the lack of graphics etc....)

Don, I did some research and your fears about having someone who has not served making decisions are unfounded. Good news for you and your concerns.

Mr. Rumsfeld attended Princeton University on academic and NROTC scholarships (A.B., 1954) and served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as an aviator and flight instructor. In 1957, he transferred to the Ready Reserve and continued his Naval service in flying and administrative assignments as a drilling reservist until 1975.[?]

Of course maybe Rummy will step down and Ollie North can take his place? I'm sure you will support that given his military experience.
Thanks for caring so much Don.
