Default NITROGEN ....I'm a believer

Just had the Vette tires filled with Nitrogen at the local Chevrolet dealer. Heard people talking about it and all the pluses sounded good. After the fill, the Vette seemed to ride smoother...maybe just positive thinking?

It costs $59. Seems a lot, but here's what you get:

Besides the Nitrogen filled tires, free roadside assistance for 1 year and free flat repairs for 1 year. Free refills for the life of the tires.

The molecules are bigger in Nitrogen so less prone to leak. Constant pressure all the time no matter the weather, so supposedly better mileage. Reduces running tire temperature so longer life of the tire.

Does it do all that? Time will tell. Going back this afternoon to have the PT tires done.

The other attributes are true, but not constant. There may be less pressure variation with temperature, but it is not zero.
I took chemistry:
PV + nRT
Pressure time Volume = amount of gas (n) R (gas constant) times Temperature.

Nitrogen can make n and maybe R (not sure, too long ago) smaller, but since the Volume of a tire is the same, when temperature goes up, pressure goes up.

There is less leaking and nitrogen doesn't attack rubber, but the outside of the tire still gets oxidized....

I do think it's worth $59.... (roadside assistance, flat repair, free refills).

Bob, Had a choice and I took chrome caps with a little Nitro-fill logo on the end.

Don, Some of the Corvette owners on the forum sure don't go along with the Nitrogen theory but a couple brought up good points that they've proven themselves on the track. Your right about the 1 year road assistance, and free Nitrogen fill-up and flat tire repair for life; that's worth the money right there.

Chemistry failure here but doesn't it make the tire colder and harder? Less traction?

Just noticed an error in my earlier post -
That should be PV=nRT (not +)

not liquid nitrogen, just ambient temperature nitrogen gas.

the differences in thermal properties of nitrogen gas and regular compressed air (which is 78% nitrogen) is trivial in this case.

Maybe. Or maybe they reduced the air pressure?

Or Maybe the 'Butt-Dyno' effect?

Yeah Man.. Let's start a "Dyno-Thread" about Nitrogen in the Tires.

Nope, watched them fill the tires (all 4 at once) and machine was set at 36psi (which is what I always run). Filled/deflated 3 times to get almost all the air out and supposedly 95% nitrogen in.

P.S. Think my "Butt Dyno" hurts from sittin at the darn computer too long.
