Just came back from Walgreen's Pharmacy. In front of me was a gentleman who bought some goods worth $10.75. He gave the counter person $20. The "kid" behind the counter hit the keys to the register and supposedly the change machine would spit out the correct coinage, but it didn't work. So he hit the register again and it cleared the total altogether and the coins still didn't come out. The "kid" then had to figure out how to subtract 10.75 from 20. HE COULDN'T. Kept thinking about it and finally handed the customer $11+. I saw him count it out. After the customer left, I informed the "clerk" that "I believe you gave that man too much change" and I did the math for him. He shrugged his shoulders as if to say, "Oh well" and started to do my order. What's with kids today ???

Along the same line, I'm always amazed when I hand the clerk
a $10 bill, and it goes immediately into the cash drawer Then the clerk will hand me the change I have the greatest urge to say "that was a 20 I gave you" |

You cannot blame the Kids for poor training as cashiers.
And when was the last time someone Counted Back Change? (not counted it to make the change, but counting up to it... as in : total $6.72, you hand over a 20$ bill. Cashiers says... (dropping 3 pennies and a quarter in your hand)" 7," (counts out 3 singles) "8,9,10" (adds a ten) "and 10 makes 20". Slow, careful, and insures the customer don't get ripped off.

As a receiving manager at department store, I run a team of older folks and kids my age. The difference in work ethic between the two is amazing. The kids never call in, spend time in the corner text messaging instead of their work, never show respect to me, customers or other managers. They also dont think things through enough and do really dumb stuff, considering we work with equipment that could easly kill someone. The older guys however always show up on time with no excuses, work hard, never complain except to share a friendly suggestion, no cell phones to be seen ever. I totally see where you are coming from, and I personally blame the failure of a social education system. And also the fact that kids are not raised by thier mothers rather a day care center because of this liberal movement that says that the "stay at home moms" are evil e.t.c. and that women need to be in the work force instead of staying home and raising thier children. Let the women choose what they feel is best instead of telling them what they should do Hillary!
Thanks for reading my rant! ![]()

I'm 25 and it's scary to see what our future is going to be like, kids insulting and even beating up their parents, not really caring for education and not showing respect to others with simple things like not cursing every 5 seconds when elaborating a conversation .I remember when I even raised my voice to my parents, I would get the "wait 'till we're behind closed doors" look . Parents nowadays just either don't care or are too busy to keep track of their kids. I have a 1 year old son and it terrifies me sometimes, how he might grow up to be like. Just giving out a peace of my mind. GOD BLESS |

It sounds like you have it together. Just raise him like your folks raised you. It sounds like they did a good job with you.

As a school nurse I can only say what I have seen with elementary kids. Don't be too quick to judge the kids, as you have the good, the bad, and the ugly out there in pint sized packages. However, you also have teachers who fit into the same exact categories as well. We are older now, and the children we see now are generally products from our own off-spring, and from our own loins.
When you see kids rifling through stuff at Walmart, and the parent no where in site, or worse, in sight, but not caring that the kids are running wild, it is very easy to judge. We are all older now, and are in the judgment seat as to how we view kids. However, judging won't change the behaviors. It is actually like whining about a problem, but not taking part in any resolution. I remember getting my ears pinned back in church one day for talking while the sermon was in progress. The old woman who nipped me wasn't a friend, wasn't related, and wasn't my mother for sure. However, I quickly shut my mouth and didn't act up again for quite a while. My parents were not present when this happened. My parents would never have thought of suing her for her actions. They would have thought of spanking my behinney though if I hadn't done as she said or if I had whined to them that some old woman thumped my ears in church. Me, I learned a lesson from that old woman. It didn't really hurt me in the least to learn that lesson either. Unfortunately, we are all subject to the changes we have allowed in society at large. We deal with it daily when we see teenagers trying to sue all the way to the Supreme Court for bad behavior that got some action they didn't like. We see an education environment where schools as mine have a 56% turn over rate in 4th grade teachers, as the teachers just can't cope with the attitude changes the kids exhibit at that time. Parental support is about nill, and we write it all off in saying, "Well, this is a Title One school, and everyone is poor." It is a cop out for accepting bad behavior as the norm. Education is not just learning to read, count, write and study. It is also about social interaction, respect, trustworthiness, citizenship, and a whole host of other things not taught by books. We have allowed ourselves to raise a bunch of irresponsible parents, who, in turn, are raising a brood of irresponsible off spring. Think it is bad now, wait for the next generation of Paris Hiltons, Madonnas, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears........and yet, I still say the good outweighs the bad. We just have to look a bit harder to find the good, but it is definately out there. I see kids all the time who actually are respectful and caring; no matter what the monitary background. I can't say I feel exactly the same with teens though. I guess I have seen too many situations where the "learning from home" just wasn't in the package. If you don't instill values by a very, very young age, you missed the boat in doing so, I believe. Unfortunately, we seem to have a society of victims being raised. No one wants to accept fault. Everyone wants to point a finger and blame. No one wants to recognize that this behavior will only get worse as a new generation is reared.........ahhhh, and yet, there is still hope. That old woman is long since passed away, but I still sit quietly whenever I go to church......my ear begins to ache when I don't. :-) Huey |
