GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join wi th us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline

priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. Texaco too. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)..and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I

had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

usually competitors will try to follow some sort of market price.

and there could be some invisible cartel within them to fix price.

business world is cruel.

I don’t really understand how that would even work. They are stating that the "cost" to make the fuel is $1.50 / Gallon - which is fine. However, the national average for gasoline tax is $0.25 per gallon. The gasoline companies have to make SOME money, so let’s say they make $0.25 per gallon. That would still put the national average of gas at $2.00 / gallon. Not really sure where they are coming up with the numbers that the gas price could go back down to $1.25 - $1.50 per gallon.

In MI I know the gas tax is $0.352 per gallon. I might be wrong, but that doesn’t even seem logical that the gas prices could ever get down that low due to whatever reasons that is making the cost of manufacturing gasoline go up.

Just my opinion...

There in a e-mail going around that says don't buy any gas on the 15th of May. All I can say is try it. Maybe we should do this on every 15th of each month. Now I want to ask something. Are you tired of getting screwed by our government? Listen to this. did you knowthe price of Crude oil has dropped from $65.00 a barrel to $61.00 in the last month ,gas is going up though. Did you know that our government pays the oil companies 51 cents a gallon to use ethenol even though they made it mandatory to use it. how about giving it to us to send on gasoline ,the oil companies will still get it .Now thing back to the 70's if you were able to drive then. Tricky Dick made in a law that all Federally Funded highways had to lower the speed limits to 55 mph. and had the states inforce it., In less then one month there was no more fuel shortages and the prices dropped a Dollar a gallon or more. Does anyone know how much it cost for a gallon of ethenol or how much it cost to make it ? Ask our chicken farmers or the dairy farmers how much they pay for feed now comparied to this time last year. ethenol is not the answer. What are we supposed to do when m85 comes out and our cars have it posted on our gas caps don't use more then 10% ethenol in the tank?

Time for a visit from Captain Bringdown (who stayed awake in Eco 101).

Theory 1) Don't Buy Gas on Day X.
Alright... so NOBODY buys ANY gas on Day X.
and on Day W and Day Z people have to buy about 50% more gas then usual.

Looks like the amount of gas sold for the week stays the same.

Theory 2) Don't buy Gas from Company X.
Supposed this worked PERFECTLY. Company X never sells another drop of Gas.
Company X goes out of business.
Now there is one less competitor.

Gas prices are where they are because it is a Global Market for a commodity with a limited supply.

The only thing that can drive down the price is sharply reduced demand, as in either a Global Recession (which would generally SUCK.) or if lots of folks found an alternative.

So how about a 'Take Mass Transit' week?
Or a 'Buy a car that gets good mileage' decade?

Or a Grow Up and stop believing in something for nothing century?

so actually the best thing to happen will be...
if someone is able to come out with alternative 'fuel'

then those gas companies can rot...hehe

Did you know that in Canada if you convert your truck to Propane they will give you up to $2,000 off on your taxes. Now with this system you can still use gasoline .it's your pick. and all it takes is a flip of a switch on the dash. Is there a savings? who knows. I'd like to have a solar car. Or a battery car with a solar recharging station.
