Since Carey is leaving the post, so I will add a comment, as a frequent flyer!
Most all digital cameras let you choose/set the file size and resolution of your pictures. I have a new 12 MP Kodak Camera, and it lets me take my photos at 3MP increments, starting at 3MP, through 12MP.
Most cameras come with some type of photo manipuation software, that should let you choose the quality of the pictures to be saved (low, medium, high, maximum). So take that into account, when planng where you will use the picture. Often, I will save the photo in several resolutions, just in case (giving each a different suffix #).
***Hints for taking you Cruiser pictures for placement on the Web:
1) Don't bother to take pictures at above 3+ MP. Most cheap photo software will not let you reduce the file size small enough to post on the Web if you go much higher; regardless of quality saved.
2) If there is a special photo that you think that you will do an 8x10 print of, go for the max MP.
3) When you manipulate your photo in software, think ahead, save a high quality copy, and a separate lowest quality for use on the Web. If you are curious about the size, just right click and choose "properties", once you have savced it.
4) Think ahead - check out the max file size for the Web site you are planning on posting to.
5) Maybe also think about using a "third party" location for your photos, and simply link to them on the Web site. This could be the way to "keep it simple"!
Hope this helps a few of you photo rookies!
