Default Think about it

Has everyone seen all the vehicle ads on the TV lately. I guess the car companies are hurting for sales, especially since a large share of the market place was selling the the large SUV and large truck market.

Now granted, some people need a large truck but I really can't think of a good reason for a Cadillac Escalade except for a status symbol.

Back on track; I'm listening closely to the car ads and they are screaming about the great fuel economy of the cars they are trying to push on the public and they are quoting anything from 24 to 28 miles to the gallon HIGHWAY that these great cars are supposed to be getting thereby saving you all kinds of gas.

Think about it, who the heck drives on the HIGHWAY all the time, maybe 3% of normal drivers? If that's what the auto companies are all raving about and calling "fuel efficient", what's the city mileage of these so called "gas saving vehicles"....probably in the low 20's if that, and we all know how the government tests the fuel mileage of cars; inside a building, no bad weather, no hills, no wind and no stop and go normal driving, so anything they say about the mileage is pure hypothetical.

Our PT's aren't doing too bad when you think about it. We're posting on this forum real world mileage figures. Granted, there are a couple owners that post in the low teens but that's rare and I do feel sorry for anyone getting that kind of mileage. Most of us are the low to mid 20's and a few seem to be in the upper 20's most of the time. It's not bad compared to all the other cars out there.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that since it's a rainy day here in Florida and if I go into the garage and wax the car anymore the paint will start to wear out.

I thought I was the only one who hid in my garage and waxed my PT?

Crewzin, when I picked up my 2008 the EPA Fuel Economy Estimates States:
City MPG 19 and Highway MPG 24. When I saw that, I felt that finally those numbers were close to what one can expect. I was impressed with Chrysler even IF the Feds pressured them to post possible numbers.

You know that's very interesting, I just had my PT on a bit of a trip, 400 miles round trip, filled up when I left, when I got there and when I got home. I got 32 mpg on the first tank and 34 mpg (imp) on the second tank, which is 26 and 28 mpg (US).

The speed limit is 110 here and I was travelling between 110 to 120 kms. or about 68 to 74 mph.

In Michigan, the speed limit is 70 which means drivers go ~80 or your getting flashed to move out of the way. Keeping with traffic out here is brutal in the PT.

I get very low 20's on mpg, but I run 75-80 alot when on the highway to keep up. Plus a mix of city driving. But I would say it's 70%HYWY vs 30%City.
My dad was getting 25+ in it before I bought it off of him, but he lives in the country & he drives like a "Farmer Brown" Maybe I should endeavor to be more like my dad in this aspect...

I write down gas at every fill-up. Dunno why, but mileage is always better in summer. For last 2,151 miles, I got 26.27 MPG.
Overall for 65,388 miles, I'm at 25.06 MPG. With an AUTO.
I accelerate briskly to 40MPH (about 2,500 RPM), then ease up and feel auto go to 4th, then feed gas slower.
Best tip? Keep tires inflated.

EXACTLY!!!! I just mentioned this in a convo I had the other day! So, if those suckers are getting that type of mileage on the highway, you can only guess what type of mileage they are getting in the city!!! Chances are, it will be in the teens!
