Default This country is soo stupid

OK, here I go again. Two things happened today that prove how stupid this country is

1) From the Baltimore Sun Newspaper: A guy from Laurel Maryland had his 1996 VW converted so it uses USED cooking oil. He made a deal with a Chinese restaurant to pick up their used oil once a week. The restaurant saves money by not having to pay for the used oil to be taken away, the guy with the VW was happy as heck UNTIL both Maryland and the FEDS sent him notices that he's breaking the law. Maryland says he's not paying his 24 cents per gallon tax plus he doesn't have a $1000 bond for a special fuel license. The FEDS says they don't know what kind of pollution the VW is putting out plus there's an actual law that prohibits running vehicles on used vegetable oil. Owners of these cars can be fined $2,750.00 plus garages or companies that convert vehicles to run on vegetable oil are subject to federal fines of $32,000.00 per vehicle. Lets here it for stupid State and Government regulations.

2) If you read the paper or listen to the news you'll know that today, in Colombia, a number of foreign and U.S. hostages were rescued from more than 5 years in captivity by the FARC. A joint effort by the Colombian and U.S. authorities. Great Job, although they say they have been working on this rescue plan for 5 years. Anyway, here's my gripe .....the news is reporting how they did it. How they infiltrated the FARC and how the plan went to bring the hostages home. They gave the details to everybody.

Don't they think the FARC will go out and take more hostages and treat them a little worse than the ones that got away? Shouldn't we keep the details a little to ourselves in case it happens again..and it probably will?

OK that's it. I welcome comments.

CREWZIN,
1. Anything that the government gets control of becomes trash in a short period of time. Take a look at our energy problems. Think that Congress could just quickly pass a lot of short little laws to expand, drilling, buld nuclear plants, and expand research and inplementation of alternatives?? Nanci P. promised when they got control of Congress, she'd "take care of" gas prices! Oh Boy, did she!! And they want "government run healthcare"??? Over my dead body! (Probably will be sooner than later, if they have anything to say!)
2. Obviously someone in the various law or military agencies talked to the "Press", and probably got $$ for it.
I'm really tired of "Leaks"!
This shows how "sick" that our society and the press have gotten.
(I'm sure our enemies just can't stop laughin'!)

Remember when our UDT & Special Forces went ashore on one of our little 10 day wars and the TV cameras flipped on when they got there!! Same difference, it is one of our constitutional amendments "Freedom of the Press". They just take it TO FAR!!!

In they do "universal health care" it probably WILL be over your dead body. The Media, it seems, wants to sabotage out country and anything that has to do with free will, and prosperity (unless of course it ends up in their pockets)

  1. Crewzin, you said it. Getting alternative fuels to a useable state will definitely take some experimentation at the consumer level. It is completely idiotic that the Maryland State government (I have also read a similar story about my own F***ed up Illinios gov.) would do this.
  2. This kind of crap just puts a bind on the necessary incremental developments we need in society to move away from crude oil based transportation. Hell, I've already been thinking about ways to add a DC electric motor to my PT to help with improving the mileage (creating a home made hybrid of sorts). I would shout from the rooftops if the U.S./State government tried to fine me for it!
  1. The Media, don't get me started. Are they necessary...sure. Can they do a much better job....yes! I mean c'mon people, have you sat down and watched CNN for a while in the last decade or so? It's on 24 hrs. a day and for all the content and value of the news they report they could take it down to oh....say....1 hour per day, and just keep rerunning the same news cast. And as for giving away tactical information, well that's just about the dumbest thing anyone can do - at least in Iraq they seem to be pretty good about keeping the stuff under wraps long enough for it to work out.

Most of my news comes from AM radio becasue that's about all I can stand - 5to 10 minutes of it. It's all too stupid for words sometimes. Remember NBC airing the sick video's of the Virgina Tech. shooter? WTF? That crap should have been given straight to the authorities, to air it is just sensationalism and shows how poor the morality and decision making skills are at high levels of our media leadership.

Being part Canadian, I was extremely proud that the CBC chose not to air ANY of the coverage of that particular event - outside of reporting the basic facts.

And can someone tell me why Robert Novak wasn't punished for outing Valerie Plaime as a CIA agent?? Forget (for the moment) who told Novack, seems to me he broke the law in revealing her name.

I want a government that WORKS. One that keeps corporate greed from selling us toothpaste with antifreeze, toys with lead paint, watches so that the sub-prime mortgage crap can't happen - Wasn't that promised after the "savings and loan" mess, where we taxpayers also had to bail out greedy financial institutions who made ill-advised loans????

I didn't vote for Carter, but in retrospect, he tried to start us on the right path, but we didn't want to hear it then. Beware of listening to the easy solutions to energy again now....

Seems telling the hard truth in politics dooms you...

Don,
"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth"....isn't just a line in the movie! It's American reality!

Carter? Up the right path? I'm assuming that you mean his energy independance efforts? Perhaps we ARE ready to start up that path after all.....er, supposing the the tree huggers will let us drill more in the mean time, so we can use the "shotgun technique" to do everything as fast as we can.
But, with Congress...don't hold your breathe!
