Default Do you Hypermile?

Just curious if anyone is crazy like I am and hypermile's everywhere I go. Even if it's to a friends house 2 miles away.

If you do it, what do you do, and if you don't why not!?

Yes uncantcm I try my best. My PT is our second car and just gets short trips. Almost no highway miles, the main thing I do is just drive slower, try to keep it at about 2000 rpm or not much above, I take off much slower than I use to and I back off way before the corners and coast, have even been known to slip it in N and coast up to the corners. I also try not to let it idle much, my wife makes fun of me but I shut the engine of just as I'm rolling into the garage.

Thanks to you I'm keeping track of mileage on GasSavers.org. I saw your GasSavers.org in your signature some time ago and went to their site and have kept track of my gas mileage since May, Looks like I about have you matched. Gary

I don't with the PT but I do with my Camry hybrid. This tank according to the onboard 'puter says I'm getting 41.2 mpg. I'll take that anyday.

According to AAA in their last magazine and from what I've seen on the road a lot of hypermiling is just plain dangerous. Over inflating your tires, driving 10 mph under the speed limit, coasting in neutral, etc can cause problems for both the hypermiler and others on the road. I drive sensible when I want great mpg and don't infringe on others.

Glad you saw it. Past few fillups I haven't been doing my best, but we should have a competition one of these days .

Time to go hypermile 45mins away to the airport!

I was gonna ask what the heck hypermiling is but i think i have it figured out If I do then I guess the answer is NO I did over inflate the tires but that was a pain so i lowered them some and as far as driving easy and doing the coasting thing I prefer drafting I have figured out that keeping it right at 3000 will net me a MPG of 21.5 not great but i can live with it

Drafting is fun. On the way home from the airport this afternoon I got 32.1MPG going 62mph 3secs behind a semi. Plenty of room and got awesome Fuel Economy. It's worth it.

Is it worth all of the rock chips in the paint and windshield coming from the semi throwing rocks at you from in front? I know the PT is a rock chip magnet without even trying.
