Yeah, had a lady on a cell phone do that to me a few weeks back...

She's leaving the gas station ahead of me, pulls up to the highway, turns the car left, puts the left blinker on, and stops to wait on traffic... I get up along side her since I'm turning right, and what does she do...

Turns right. All while talking on the phone.

One thing NY did that impressed me was outlawing cell phones of any kind on the road. I don't even think hands free devices are allowed... I'm all for that. Emergency calls only IMHO.

Too many idiots out there causing wrecks and killing people due to a lack of attention.

Travis: I sure wish Virginia would ban cell phones while driving; heck, just this month we FINALLY got a no-texting law put in place. Not that THAT's worth much: it's a $20 fine (yep, you read that right: a lousy twenty dollar fine), and ONLY if you're already pulled over for some OTHER infraction, like speeding or running a red light; the texting alone isn't enough.

And I also agree that it really doesn't matter if it's hands-free or not: the problem is that they just plain aren't paying attention to their driving, 'cause they're too busy yapping! I couldn't even begin to tell you the number of times some idiot on a phone has almost hit me....

Fun fact: Did you know overseas, when the light is RED and about to turn Green, the Amber light comes on to tell the drivers to get ready to go. Here in the U.S.A., it just goes from Red to Green.
Yeah when I visited London I really liked that whole idea, I think we should do it. I think London has a unique way of traffic, but especially how the lights are solid red, then when about to turn green red and amber are both lit up. Kind of helpful to people who drive sticks.

Fortunately for me I have Bluetooth built into the car now. However that has not come far enough to where every other call, I don't have to pick up the phone because they cant hear me.

It's moments like those that make you feel like you wish you were a cop

It's sooo ridiculous how people can't just wait to reach their destination or just pull on the side to talk on their phones. I guess they think they're multi-tasking.

In Hawaii, the law finally came into effect that no one can talk on their phone while driving. On base (not sure if it's in effect off-base), you can't text or even have the phone in your hand. Only hands-free devices are allowed. The exception of course lets emergency or work-duty calls go.

I wish I could go undercover as a side job Hey, mo' money for mods!

I try to make the trip back up to NY every year or two and when I was last there in '07 there were signs on the thruway indicating cell phone usage was illegal other than emergency calls.

I've read that if a cop sees a phone in your hand he can pull you over up there... I wish they would do that down here in Georgia... like anything else though they have to wait until enough people die to pass the law.

One spot that comes to mind is Exit 109 on I-95 here. Its the last exit in Georgia and the offramps meet up with a divided highway. They didn't used to have lights until 4 or 5 people got killed trying to cross the highway.

Oh, people have definately died here in Virginia because of being distracted by their cell phones; apparently not enough, or at least not enough "important" people! I recall one about three/four years ago: a guy got on his phone about midnight to tell his wife he was almost home, and --- because he was distracted and talking to her --- he drifted over into the oncoming lane, where he went head-to-head with an eighteen-wheeler. His wife literally listened to the whole accident, including his death scream.

If THAT's not enought reason to hang up while driving, I don't know what is!
