Default Hey CREWZIN

The road I live on has a 50 mph speed limit and is routinely patrolled by the Effingham County sheriff's office.

It's about a 2 mile drive down the road till I hit I-16 and head towards Savannah for work.... well, every day this week there has also been a Sheriff parked on I-16 between where I get on and where it goes under I-95. He's been hidden in the brush to where you can't see him till you are right on top of him.

Anyway, I pull out of my subdivision this morning at 4:45 am (50 mph speed limit) and this guy with a Florida tag zooms by me like I was standing still... He had to be doing at least 80 if not 90.

I said to myself "If he takes 16 I bet he'll get busted"... Sure enough, about 15 minutes later I see blue lights flashing and I see it's the same guy with the Florida tag standing behind his car getting questioned.

Dunno why but I thought about you and your profile pic with the police car... LOL

I couldn't help but laugh at the idiot... he had more nerve than I did driving that fast at 5am.

There's a couple of retired officer/deputies on this forum. 5am has it's advantages for exceeding the speed limit as there's less traffic on the road but then again your going to stand out because there's less traffic on the road. If your in a hurry, it's best to stay right below 10mph over the limit. You'll usually get away with that in most areas. We have a 3 areas on 301 that are notorious for the local law enforcement to hide and have been known to issue citations at 5 above. Believe it or not, there's actually big bill boards warning about the upcoming towns saying they are speed traps and just a little while ago, the town put another rebuttle bill board up saying they are not speed traps, that there just enforcing the speed limit for your safety.

I love it when I see someone come flying by me and get pulled over. I set my cruise for 4 over. I've been pulled over before and it sucks. I got off with an equipment violation but learned my lesson. If I want to go fast I go to the drag strip.

Up here in Virginia, we've been having big fights about the red light cameras: people claim they're an invasion of privacy, that they never gave permission for their picture to be taken, it's all just a money-making scam, and on and on.
Personally, I'm in favor of 'em: a camera setup is expensive, but cheaper on my tax dollars than hiring more officers; and for crying out loud, if you don't want it to take your picture, don't run the red light in the first place!

Paula,

They aren't expensive to anyone except the makers of the camera. They are the ones paying for them. The city/county pays nothing, but, the camera company takes a percentage of the citation money so the more tickets that are issued, the more money they make. A winning situation for the company and the city/county.

The legal issue really is that the citation is issued to the owner of the vehicle, not the driver. If someone other than the owner (son/daughter/friend) is driving, they get away with it until the owner goes to court and tells the judge who was actually driving.

I visit Virginia (Midlothian south of Richmond) about 4 times a year to visit my Grandkids. I can't believe how many people run the RED especially in turning lanes. They just keep on going till there's no one left to turn.

Florida's not too bad. It's usually kids or moms' on the cell phone not paying attention. They even fly by me in my patrol car doing the speed limit yaping on the phone.

Yea, it's probably one of the few things left here that say "Made in the U.S.A."

Fun fact: Did you know overseas, when the light is RED and about to turn Green, the Amber light comes on to tell the drivers to get ready to go. Here in the U.S.A., it just goes from Red to Green.

Yes, but we must do the 3 second pause before we start thru the intersection.

Right Ernie. Glad you put the smiley's after you said that. Wait 3 seconds here and people will be blowing the horns at you to wake you up cause they think you'll be asleep.
