Yep, I thought I remembered about only one transmission, for awhile anyway. The torque was just to much for any transverse auto to handle.

Yes, that's Citrus County, Florida. 90 miles above Tampa, but I don't pull anyone over. Not my job. I do issue citations but only after a driver messes up and causes a crash.

YES!!! A new SHO AWD will probably be our next vehicle purchase (in a year or so). Yup, the SHO and the Thunderbird SC auto trannys always gave out around 70k miles. Always the Torque convertors. My hubby has a 5 speed, 95 Tbird SC, last year made. It's a blast to drive. It has nearly 170k miles on it and we have only done basic maintenance to it. It's been a great car. I can't wait to drive a new Taurus.

Ok sorry I forgot the Mustang was never offered up this option I was thinking of the HO mustangs. And I know from growing up in FL you have seen those.

I can't imagine what another 100hp would do to it. Torque steer is evident with mine when you punch it. The old SHO was only available with an automatic if I remember correctly.
That's an interesting cruiser. I've never seen one of those, especially around these parts. We've got Chargers, Crown Vics and whatever the FWD GM offering is (Malibu maybe?). I'm surprised at the power numbers out of your car too.

We built a real fun street car many years ago...We used a Taurus/Yamaha fwd unit with automatic and grafted it into the back of a Ford Fiesta...Looked like a autocross car with the wider track...Left the Fiesta driveline in the front for weight..Left the FWD system in netural and ran on the SHO system that was well concealed...no back seat...Was a real Hoot at the hood open show and tell after the usual saturday night activitys...

Note to Ford : Drop the Taurus name!

I associate the name with years of very crappy cars. And these days Ford is making some fine automobiles.

That's an interesting project. Would you happen to have any pictures of it?

They dropped the name and when they brought it back, sales on the 500/Taurus went up.

I knew the Taurus was a renamed 500. But I didn't know sales went up. I guess it's a good thing i don't sell cars for as livin'

The SHO has put on serious weight since the original SHO, and "eco-boost" is a real stretch since it slurps gas.
Read a road test in recent car mag.
