If it is a wisdom tooth, have it removed, I had all 4 removed about 50 years ago.

Cool Re: dentists aarrgghh

"sort"....or "restored"???
My territory!!
How many other missing teeth do you have?
Is it the second or third molar (wisdom tooth as Hooligan mentions).
If it's a third molar (wisdom tooth), there is no overwhelming practical reason to save it.
If it's a second molar, and you are older (50s +), or there is no opposing tooth, it may not be missed very much in your chewing...unless its an anchor tooth for a partial denture.
If you are already missing some back teeth, it may be important to save.
The dentist should have explained the importance of the tooth; and the irsk (long-term prognosis for that tooth); versus the investment & benefit.
These days, there are plenty of places to get the tooth out and place an implant, versus put a fortune into a root canal and crown.
Ask good questions. Think it through, in your "full" circumstances.

Cool Re: dentists aarrgghh

You likely won't miss it after a few months.
But, over the years, expect the upper opposing tooth to drop down a little.

Ditto!! Had mine taken out years ago. I have always HATED going to the dentist. It's not the dentist that I'm afraid of, it's the needles and the drills. Found me a 29 year old gorgeous female dentist, who brings in her big-boobied assistant to distract me while she shoots me up, then when I'm being drilled I have headphones on and these odd glasses that block out all light and produce very muted colors while the dentist is at work. Usually I'm asking what happened when we're done as time just flies and I'm usually ready for a nap after that!!!
