I've tested the beta at the very beginning, RC1 was so stable to be used as my main OS for a couple of months, then RTM.

I'm in IT, you know...

7 is definitely what Vista should have been, a great XP replacement contender.

Not that XP became obsolete, but 7 is facing the future like a charm.

I've been trying to put it in a friend's system for the past few days and its been nothing but a pain in the butt!!! I know its supposed to be good, but it's not liking this computer. And its new enough too, its an ASUS board, AMD 64 3200 chip, lots of memory, lots of HD.

Tried installing and it wouldn't recognise the SATA drive no matter what I did. I eventually gave up went back to XP and switched all the data from the IDE to SATA drive to make the IDE the boot drive. Eventually got it in after a few more problems. Right now just loading up a few programs and so on. But to be honest it seems to be slower than before

XP here, too, but plan to upgrade when I get a new system- this one's almost a dinosaur, but I've tweaked it to where I like it.

Hooligan, you can get WIN7 premium home ed. in a family pack for about $120 that has 3 licenses included.

Does AMD 64 mean 64 bit? I think I read you need either one of the special editions or some kind of a tweak to get it to run on 64 bit v 32 bit like XP was. You might look into that.

More like $149.99, I got it and tried to load it. Took it to Office Depot and they loaded it, aid it was in a "loop".

Working with it until I get a little used to it and then will load it on my Desktop.

The package contains a 32 bit and 64 bit version. AMD 64 does mean its a 64 bit, I looked that up when I couldn't get it to load. As near as I can figure it has to be the SATA driver or lack of a SATA driver. I did a clean install.

It seems to be working pretty good now

I've been running Windows 7 since June on one of my boxes and I'll admit its a far cry from XP however it's still not going to make me a Windows fan again as it has its share of issues.

I would choose it over XP, but I also had none of the issues with Vista that people always talk about either so it would be a toss up there as well. All of the "intuitive" features of Windows 7 I hate and the fact that there is still a great deal of manual action for the configuration of most devices, drivers, etc is highly annoying.

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) was such a great release that I am finally aboe to get some of the family switching over. I still have 3 Windows systems in the house, 2 are Win7 and I will probably keep one "just in case" machine and it will be Win7.

Morale of the story? Windows 7 is the best Windows to date however, it's still Windows.
