I had a choice this past weekend; NHRA or F1. I've been to Joliet a couple times for the NHRA Nationals, so the Indy F1 was next on the list.
WOW!! Those 4.0L V10 NAs spinnin' 17,000RPM sound just beautiful [ ] [ ] [ ]. Stop, go, left, right. G-forces in sudden acceleration/deceleration. YEAH...An international fan base with Ferrari, BMW, MB (no, not DC) flags all over the place. What an experience. After the race, we got some food and happened to view the final part of the NASCAR race. Boy, what a contrast in mentalities: F1: Open-wheeled racing with constantly variable speeds and direction. No wrecks, no payback just a clean, clean race. NASCAR: Closed-wheel bang, bang cars turning left at a steady rate of speed yet still managing to get wrecked after the race is OVER!! Ah, WWF marketing............ 'Not looking to start an arguement here. Just an observation and some reflection. Did anybody else manage to attend Indy? |

i attended the first f1 race at indy a few years back. it was awsome. i just find the technology and the driving skill to be far more superior than nascar. I know many in the usa would not agree. I think nascar has great marketing. They know how to sell their sport. I mean they might as well call Speed chanel the nascar channel. They have a great variety of programes to keep fans interested. Flashy ads so on and so on. But as far as the automotive inovation and driver skill is concerned f1 is the pinnicle. Most of the technology that you find in the average car today had its begginigs in f1 (trac control, abs, seqential shifting, ect). I beleive only the best drivers in the world can master those machines and have a working knowledge of them. and as far as nascar drivers are concerned i think jeff gordon would be the only one that could handle an f1 car.

Jeff Gordon may be one of the few Nascar drivers to be able to fit in a F-1 car!!
