Id have to say that letting the cost of your insurance decide if you want to ride a bike is a good indication that maybe you really don't---And I do not meant this in any negative way ----- but like the earlier post im 53 and have rode a bike since i was 7--yes it was a mini bike with a lawnmower engine but hey i thought i was coool

For me riding is just what I do but trust me i have had a few accidents and a couple that were not so good Its scary to see a car and know you ARE going to hit it even more scary to see the top of said car as you are flying through the air

Bikes are way cool and I will probably ride till I cant and then try anyway

All i am saying is--------- if you really want to start riding that's cool, just count the cost, and know that one day you will get into a accident. maybe you wont even get a scrape----- and maybe you wont ever walk
That is the reality of a motorcycle--- SO with that said I will get ready to head home on my Big Honda ride on

Business owner passes from injuries

GLADWIN MICHIGAN“ Local business owner Kim Martinek passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, from injuries sustained in a Nov. 8 accident in Isabella County. Martinek, 43, of Gladwin, was critically injured in a motorcycle-deer accident around 2 p.m. Sunday in Richfield Township.

This was my daughter's best friend all thru school. She has a mother with breast cancer, a father with lung cancer and only 1 child, a daughter. Sad situation!!

My mom has been riding long before I was born. She has a saying that she's picked up a long time ago. It's not IF you get in an accident it's WHEN you get into an accident. She rides a HD 1200 sportster. A few months ago she was rear ended at a red light. No injury to her because she kind of just jumped off the bike, but the bike needed a new rear fender, front fender, front rim, forks, handlebars, windshield. She was hit at about 15 - 25mph and the front tire was hooked on the trailer hitch of the van infront of here.

But at the same time, a family friend of ours who has been riding with my mom for the past 30+ years was in an accident on his BMW and has yet to fully recover, and never will, from head injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident 5 years ago.

Please just do the world a favor. Don't be one of those dumbasses I see every day riding an r1 with flip-flops, a tanktop and board shorts without a helmet trying to do wheelies and 150mph fly bys. Keep your chances for survival higher by having all appropriate gear.

In Florida there's no helmet law for motorcycle riders but the smart ones still wear one. Both the hospitals and law enforcement have a name for the ones who don't ......organ donors.

I have nothing against motorcyclists. I was one for 17 years, from a 175cc all the way to a 750 Suzuki. Plenty of good memories and some really bad ones with the scars and scrapes to prove it. 03GTCruiser took the words from my mouth about the IF/WHEN you go down.

That 20 K$ personal injury won't cover a good dose of asphalt rash...
All my bikes are old and I have them covered with a blanket classic vehicle policy..I've been riding for over 50 years and have had only one minor bump..

Remember --EVERY SOB IN A CAR IS OUT TO KILL YOUR ASS , NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES TO DO IT...and AS SOON AS YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE BIKE DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT IT TOO, IT WILL WHIP YOUR ASS JUST FOR FUN...

I guess my favorite street bike is a Rickman road race frame with a Norton 500 twin..Favorite dirt bike is a BSA Gold Star 500 single....Guess I'm telling my age.....You're not old enough to see that old farts can pass on a lot of good experience , My grandkids think I'm SENILE...But I can still whip their new factory hot rod Vettes with my old Viper....on a good road course...

It's not just the insurance.

Let me tell you those itty-bitty drunk bumps hurt when you're bouncing along them at 20mpg and you'll almost never be going that slow! Also, it' not so much the snow as the ice pack under it that's a problem. I've had bikes squirrel out from under me in all sorts of road conditions, avoided all sorts of car drivers who ranged from drunk to just plain oblivious, to momentarily distracted, to down right road raged. Yes, I enjoy riding, but it's a whole quantum level of difference in concentration to drive well on a bike. And yes, it gets cold, too.

I'm not going to talk you out of it, you're 19 and invincible, but, take all the classes you can find, get the best insurance you can, and wear every kind of protection you can think of so someone like Crewzin doesn't have to go get your mother and explain to her why you're not home. If you're both lucky, you'll be at the police station filing a report and need a ride home, but don't count on luck because it can be much worse.

If you're still in the mood for taking advice, get a bike you can lift by yourself. When it topples, you're the one who's going to have to get it back up.

It may sound dumb to some pople but the only reason for not getting a bike right now is the price of good insurance. I really dont want my parents getting sued or in money trouble because of me or anything. But also i just dont buy anything unless i can pay cash for it, and thats the problem with the insurance. My main money goal is pretty much just not to owe any money to anyone. I try as hard as i can to live within my means. It may not work with EVERY purchase like a house or something like that but i dont think getting a bike is worth owing a bunch of money when i still have a few years left of college to pay for. I really do want to get a bike but its just not in the money right now.

I can see where your going BUT, when it comes time for that big purchase (like a house) you better have some built-up credit and a decent credit score. I heard of lots of people who paid cash for everything like your trying to do and built up ZERO credit which actually does nothing for your credit score. The only way to raise it is to get yourself some credit and pay it off on time.
