My son's car developed a leak a couple months ago, and has since been fixed, but now I am left with an ugly oil spot on my cement driveway. The oil was synthetic, which seems to have added to the problem.
I have used 3 different driveway cleaners, and ACE oil spot driveway cleaner followed by my pressure washer. The spot is lighter now, but still remains. What next?[:I] |

Muriatic Acid. That's the standard concrete cleaner.
Also, there's kitty-litter-like oil absorbent that sucks most of it up.

Kirby,
I'm with you. Tried a bunch of stuff on the spots (mostly from people that visit) and I can get them lighter, but not fully removed. I did find out that "in time" they do almost fade away completely.[8D]

If the other stuff doesn't get it as clean as you like, get a bag of dry oil absorbent. After you apply it, on a windless day, crush it on the concrete and let it set a few hours. At work when my stall was bad and one was available, I'd run a small asphalt roller over it! Cleaned much better than just pouring it on and sweeping it up.[

I have the same problem.. Cement needs to be sealed contary to what people think. The pours can absorb all kinds of stuff. I have to clean mine well next spring. then seal. Keep in mind the two types of sealer. Membrane and penetrating. The penetrating is best, the material goes into the pours of the cement, creating a barrier not to allow contaminants from getting in. I made the mistake of using a membrane type (cheaper) and it didn't hold up. Now I have to make sure it is all off before I use the good stuff. Don't go to a hardware store either, find out where a construction supply company is near you. they will guide you toward what to use. Gary
