Default makes you wonder (sad story)

Just got word, that my step brother, just hung himself, never got to really know him as he wasn't my brother, but it makes you wonder why, why he didn't reach out or if he did why we didn't see it, so close to christmas, he had 2 children and a wife, just lost his job though...

anyways, just had to say something about it, why i don't know...

Some people just get really depressed and think that's the only way out. I was in the emergency room the other day for the wife and they rolled a guy in that tried to overdose. I saw them roll the the pumping cart to his cubicle and I guess it worked because all kinds of people came to visit him later on...all the females were crying.

Unfortunately, in addition to being a time of joy and happiness for some, this is a time of the year that is very depressing for others.

I'am more than familiar with depression, it does have a life of its own. When it comes to visit, you are no longer in control. From a rational view, taking your own life makes no sense. From the view of the depressed mind, it makes perfect sense. Thats why our hospitals are full of people that have a mental illness> depression is a form of mental illness. Most people don't know that. Fortunate are those that can identify the problem BEFORE it takes their life. Those are the lucky ones. Punch, I'm sorry your step brother did not get the help he needed. If he would be considered the pain he would leave behind, perhaps it might of been avoided. Gary

That is a sad story. I feel really sorry for the whole family. As for the ex-wife, that was totally uncalled for! I'm sure everyone feels bad enough at a time like that. The last thing someone needs is to have a guilt trip laid on them! Depression is a very strong illness. I remember when I was a teenager, there was a young guy who hung around with us at the local Harveys. He actually shot himself in the head!!! He survived though. It was really weird talking to him after that.

Truly tragic. Christmas season is also the most popular time for layoffs and suicide. When I got laid off, I admit the thought crossed my mind - that I was worth more dead - but I shoved it out of my mind.

When I was a school board president, had a custodian hang himself in a school. I had chatted with him often, didn't sense anything wrong.

I am convinced (and so is my wife) that her brother comitted suicide in his car - made it look like an accident. He had called me the week before and didn't sound right, but I never realized.....

It most definitely is a mental illness.

The ex-wife can't deal with the pain - and her own guilt - it's easier to blame someone - anger is easier to handle than grief.

You're not alone on that one. Thankfully clearer heads prevailed. Condolences to you
