HDTV

Anyone have a High Definition TV? I have DirecTV but they only have 4 or 5 HD channels. I installed an outdoor antenna today and I'm picking up 13 Digital over the air channels, ABC (5), CBS (1), NBC (1), PBS (1), PAX (1), UPN (1), UNC (3). The picture is amazing!

I have HDTV and it is awesome. However, as good as the picture is, I could live without it--at least for movies. Just give me a good widescreen DVD picture with DD/DTS 5.1 surround sound and I'm happy. Don't get me wrong. I do like HDTV and the picture is spectacular, but IMHO, it is not something "to die for". I don't live close enough to Seattle to be able to receive over-the-air HD signals.

I have HDTV and direct tv. I was thinking about installing an external antenna so I could pick the network programming that is broadcast in HD. I find myself watching stuff I could care less about just for the awesome picture. Would love to see CSI, Law & Order, etc. in HD.

Gary04Gt, I thought I lived to far away to receive any over the air signal but I found out that I didn't.

Go to http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.asp and enter in your address and zip code. This will show you what stations in your area are broadcasting in digital and what antenna you should use to receive them.

Another site which is very useful is http://www.titantv.com
You can also check what stations are available, what antenna you will require and how to aim it. TitanTV also provides a Program Schedule for Digital, Satellite, Analog, Cable and Datacast. Very cool site. You must sign up but it's FREE!

You may be surprised at what's available.

nehope, I know what you mean about watching stuff you could care less about, that's why I checked into the over the air stuff. Just about all of the stations are broadcasting some shows in HD. Check out the links in the message I left for Gary04GT.

Thanks for the info, IRPT. However, it won't work for me. I had the "OTA thing" checked-out by professionals before I had my satellite system installed. The problem is that, although I am located 35 miles northwest of Seattle, there is a small "mountain" blocking the digital signal path. [B)] My only hope is that, like CBS, eventually I will be able to receive "local HDTV" via satellite.

Just get a large antenna mast!
