Default Another Funny Santa Story!!!

I know that not everyone is a hockey fan, but I thought this was hilarious! (and fitting, if you are, or know someone who is a new york sports fan)

TWO JUMPED AFTER FLASHING RANGERS JERSEYS
Associated Press
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Bad Santa isn't just a holiday movie.

A seemingly harmless Christmas promotion arranged by the New York Islanders turned ugly, and all because of the team's fierce rivalry with the New York Rangers.

And the Rangers were nowhere near when trouble broke out.

The promotion invited fans to dress up as Santa Claus for Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers and be admitted to the Nassau Coliseum for free. What's more, they were permitted to parade across the ice between periods.

About 1,000 Santa Clauses showed up and as promised, they were invited on the ice after the first period.

This turned out to be not such a good idea. As the Santas milled around, two of them removed their red jackets to reveal jerseys of the rival Rangers -- not a good thing to do in the home of the Islanders.

Ignoring the holiday spirit, some of the other St. Nicks turned into Bad Santas, jumping the Ranger fans. The interlopers were knocked to the ice and had the shirts ripped off. Other Santas went sliding across the ice during the melee that took six minutes to settle down.

The entire parade took nearly nine minutes, and almost delayed the start of the second period. The players were unaware of what was happening on the ice until after the game, won by the Islanders 4-2.

Maybe it was the presence of the Flyers that set off the fans. Philadelphia, remember, is where Santa was once booed in a holiday parade.

When New York's Arron Asham learned about what had happened, he grinned.

What did he think about the episode?

"Awesome," Asham said.

I think it's pretty sad when violence erupts because those with a limited number of brain cells see an indication that someone else doesn't agree with their view.

IRPT, I was actually watching the game here in Philly, and they showed all the Santa's on the ice during the intermission. Didn't get to see any of the good stuff, though.

Quick, i totally agree with you. I am a huge HOCKEY fan. Although the Flyers are my team, and I bleed Orange, I care for the sport more than anything else. When I go see my team play, I wear their jersey with pride when I walk around, and would never do something to give people a reason to hate me or my team (we have enough people in Philly to do that alreadty!). And on the same side of the coin, if I'm at a Flyers game and I see someone wearing the visiting team's jersey, sure I'll boo them and give them a hard time. But after the game, I'll also tell them that I respect them for stepping up and representing their team in a hostile envorinment. There are many fans who wouldn't take that chance, whether in Philly, New York, or wherever.

Some people just need to grow up a little. Or lay off the booze!

Quicksvilerdon, I agree with you. I'm not saying I endorse that type of behavior, just would like to have seen it.

That's fine, but:
"knocked to the ice and had the shirts ripped off." goes too far.

About the same as throwing things onto the field during baseball games - something else I don't understand.

I know hockey is rough - fights are common - but it's a contact sport for the players, not the fans.
