ptgtcb, I agree, that's a scary article. But what do you expect from someone who says something like this:

I'm glad you posted the link and that I took the time to read it. I thought it was going to be some radical crap, but it's truly scary. I'm reminded of the Nixon regime that resulted in Kent State.

Interesting. I am sure the San Francisco paper gave an unbiased view.

I think the news media should go to these "free speech zones" and give them coverage - that'd work. |

At least your guy doesn't go around saying,
"I don't know, a proof is a proof. What kind of a proof is a proof? A proof is a proof and when you have a good proof it's because it's proven." (PM Jean Chretien, when asked what kind of proof he would need of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq before deciding to send Canadians along on the Bush invasion-September 5th on CTV news) Those "free speech zones" are indeed troubling.

I'm reminded of the Nixon regime that resulted in Kent State. ![]() /quote] Funny you should mention Nixon... (Originally at http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm#thinskin) One of the most disturbing things about Bush is that he consistently works to silence his critics using his money and power, including state police and expensive lawyers. Not since Richard Nixon has a major presidential candidate been so quick to prevent his opponents from free speech. At the very least, this shows he doesn't understand big-league politics and may not be tough enough to handle more serious opponents, such as hostile foreign countries and terrorists. At worst, it may be a sign of Nixon-like paranoia; that president's thin-skin started out with similar small potatos and grew to bring down his presidency amid enemies' lists, illegal break-ins of his opponent's offices, and forcing the IRS to audit his enemies. Bush can't blame this on his staff, either; it comes from the top. When asked about one critical web site, he told the press "There ought to be limits to freedom. We're aware of this site, and this guy is just a garbage man, that's all he is."
