Default All dealers are the same. True Story

Last Friday I took my wive's car to the dealer for it's final Waranty repair. The car's waranty will expire this month...
The reason was that in a trafic jam, the A/C would turn Off... Once the car was moving again, it would come back online.

Simple?

Wrong!!!

I explained to the service technitian, that "The car had been here before for a radiator change and the problem started after this repair"
I had noticed that the radiator fan was connected to a wire-plug that was broken. and I showed this to the technitian.

One hour later he calls me and tells me that the problem was with the radiator fan was not turning on, so the computer would turn off the AC compressor to protect the engine from over heating. I was convinced with his findings but then, he proceded to say that repair won't be covered by the waranty because "The car looks like it was involved in an old accident and because of that, the waranty was voided"... I told him that how was that possible!!! he gave me a story that the tech. had tested the plug and there was no electricity going to it, that the fuse box was missing a screw and that there was a strange weld in the frame. then he explained to me that " the crash that the car was invovled had severed the AC Fan wire" I explained to him that it sounded ridiculous considering that the wire goes thru the fender in a plastic armor with 40 more wires... How is it possible to cut a wire inside this "Armor" and no damage to annything else!!!

Then I puled My Magnusom - Moss document and I wanted him to prove me that in writing... He said that he had already done all that was needed and asked me if I was a Lawyer. He then told me that the repair would be about $200.00...

I took the car home and decided to take a look myself...

After I removed the fender, checked all Wirings and no damage was found, I decided to check the radiator instalation done previously.

What I found between the radiator and the frame was something to laugh about.. There it was, the correct radiator fan plug!!

They had connected the fan to the Fog-Lamp plug!!! Of course there was no electricity in the wire...

THE CAR HAS NO FOG LAMPS AND THE WIRE GOES TO A DEAD PLUG IN THE DASH!!!!!!

I proceded to call the technitian at the dealer and report my findings... I now feel great that I had grabbed him by the Ba!!s So to speak. and told him that: " If you would spend more time troubleshooting the problem, instead of finding ways to void the waranty, you would have fixed the car in five minutes and fix the previous technitian's mistake and look good to the client. Not make all of you look like idiots!" I Then Told him " I want you to restore my waranty, in writing, for the time left on the car" I hung up the phone and went to the dealer for them to check it out and restored my waranty and also got new Seat covers for the car for free!

Ian

Well, some time ago my reaction to this would have been one of surprise, but these days nothing I hear about Dealers makes me react that way.

Good job, too bad you couldn't invoice them for your time - say 2hrs @ $85.00/hr - that would be cool.

MANY years ago, I had a '75 VW Rabbit, bought new. At the time, oil change per warranty was 7,500 miles (filter was 15,000 miles!!!). I would take it to the dealer at 7,500 mile intervals to keep warranty, but would change oil & filter more frequently myself. At the time, I'd scratch the mileage in the paint on the oil filter. Picking up my car, I looked before I went inside the dealership, and saw my oil filter (it was supposed to be changed). I didn't say anything and asked if all went well. They said yes. Then, I raised my voice, and asked them to tell me that they had changed my oil and filter, so I could call them liars to their face. Last time I've been back to a dealer for service.
There's a reason they're called DEALERS.
