I think you're better off than with a film camera - there's hardly any moving parts in a digital camera, and no film to get brittle.
Battery life will go down so be sure to have batteries fully charged.

ditto on batteries-carry plenty of spares in a pocket next to your body. Also watch for condensation when bringing it in a warm humid room from a cold dry enviorment.I leave my rifle in a unheated garage during the season and have no problem w/rust or scope fogging.

the big grins teeth sound like a jackhammer at 35 below!

My digital camera is in a shop right now in New Jersey. Took it on a my trip to see the grandkids in West Virginia for 3 weeks over the holidays but didn't use it. Bitter temperatures up there and camera was in the car a lot of the time. Got back home and went to use it and adjustable lens for focusing wouldn't work. Tried new batteries and nothing. Packed it up and shipped it to the authorized dealer. Don't know if the cold had anything to do with it. [:I]

I am going back quite some time now so for give me if I am wrong. Digital cameras I am not so sure about. Any local camera shop should be able to answer your questions. Not Best Buy, Sears and so on but a real camera shop. As far as film cameras if I remember correctly, it was suggested to remove all lubricants from the interals for extreme cold weather. I never did this and had no problems but the coldest weather I experience were the 20's.

Check the yellow pages for a professional camera shop and ask.

Enjoy the trip.

How about this... read the owners manual or check the box! [] Methinks that they would have the operating temperatures listed in there somewhere.

I know, I know... guys don't read instructions

Shooting digital in cold weather is a little different from traditional photography. Here are a few tips:

Cold sucks the energy from your batteries and can hinder the performance of some memory storage devices. It helps to the camera warm inside your jacket, with the lens covered, until you are ready to shoot.

If you thought it was difficult to change film outside in icy-cold weather, try changing one of those tiny memory cards. To make those delicate cards easier to handle, try wearing two pairs of gloves, with the fingertips of the inner glove cut off. Thin, high-tech gloves also work and are available in most winter sport shops. And avoid prolonged contact between frozen metal parts and bare fingers, noses and cheeks. Prying flesh from frozen metal is no fun.

Keep falling snow off your camera by putting it into a zip-lock bag with holes cut out for the lens and viewfinder. And to prevent fogging, donÂ’t breath on the lens or viewfinder.

Avoid condensation by letting your camera warm incrementally when you go indoors, and make sure to brush snow off all the equipment before entering a heated room. You can also seal your camera in a plastic bag, which prevents condensation from forming.

If you do get ice on the lens of your camera don't scrape it! You're likely to scratch the lens. In cold weather, ice can get very hard and forcefully scraping it can scratch the lens. If the ice is thin, hold the lens so it faces the sun and the sun will sublimate (evaporate) the ice from the lens. You can also try warming the lens in your pocket or with your breath and then wiping the water off.
