Default Chrysler Recalls 2.7M Cars

POSTED: 5:05 p.m. EST January 13, 2004
A problem with floor-mounted gear shifts has led Chrysler, a division of DaimlerChrysler, to recall 2.7 million cars to fix a potential problem with their floor-mounted gear shifts.
Vehicles affected by the recall include the 1995-1999 Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze; 1996-1999 Sebring convertibles; and 1993-1999 Chrysler 300M, Chrysler Concorde, Chrysler LHS, Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Vision cars, the automaker said.
The problem is that if the gear shifter is pulled too hard, it could allow people to remove their keys without shifting into park.

We had a 1997 Breeze, traded it for the PT in 2002. We had a recall in 2000 or 2001 for the gear shift/key issue. Don't think this is a new recall unless they expanded the models involved?

We actually had 2 recalls on the Breeze for the same thing. They came about 9 months apart. I know the first one told you how to check the transmission interlock yourself if you wanted to. I did and found no problem but still took it to the dealer for them to check also.Maybe they're finding the problem shows up with age and ware and tear on the interlock and Chrysler is reissuing the recall.
