Default If I didnt have bad luck...

So today I get home from work and my beretta is GONE!. So of coure i pull in like WTF, wheres my car? Roomies said it was there earlier. Well just yesterday my neighbor asked if it was my car because she got a notice about it sitting with expired tags. So I said yeh, I'm selling it I just have to hold onto it for a few more days. Apparently since i had moved it to the side out of everyones way but to her side of the parking area the homeowners association decided it must ber hers.

So not thinking too much of it I said ok well it'll be moved soon. She didnt seem to mind anyway, just warned me that the way it was parked the cops probably noticed the expired tags and thats why she got this notice.

So anyway, I get home , now Pi$$ed cause it had not even been 24 hrs since i even knew about any notice to move the car, I end up having to call two different police departments to try and find out where my car is. Finally I get a number to the impound lot where they took it. I ask the guy what I had to do to pick up the car, he says "well $100 for the initial tow, and $25 a day storage fee" WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! they have it not 2 miles away, $100 for towing it 2 miles...grrrrrrr

So i get no notice on the car , nothing at the house and they can just up and take my property and hold it for ransom? OMG, i was freaking out. Well anyway, it just has to sit there till i can get it tomorrow...

Ok all done, sorry i just had to rant about legal robbery..FWIW, the tahs were expired 2 weeks[xx(]

Sorry to hear about your missing Beretta, I guess the good thing is it wasn't your PT. It's amazing what the city, county, state, federal govn't can get away with these days, $100.00 to tow, seems a bit high but your hands are tied.

Had my car towed (not PT) in Joisey City - exceeded a 3-hour parking limit by about an hour - no parking ticket - TOWED. Was over $100 also. The local governments give out contracts to local contractors, who roam like sharks - the local government gets a fee, the shark contracor gets the cream. A nice political "plum", those contracts.

So who had your Beretta towed, the homeowner's association or the police?

I do not understand how the police can tow a car parked in-residence for expired tags.

well apparently the homeowners association has some deal with the local cops so they cruise around here all the time looking for cars with expired tags/no tags and have em towed. I would have just really appreciated some kind of warning or somthing rather than have my car gone when i come home from work.

I mean I can understand that they dont want a bunch of junk cars up on blocks sitting around, but that wasnt the case. I had been driving that car daily up until i got the PT about a month ago. It's also not like my neighborhood is leave it to beaver looking, it's pretty dumpy looking actually. Theres a bunch of unoccupied townhouses with trees growing through the front gates and all.

well anyway, i picked the car up today, the owner of the towing place *only* charged me $100 instead of $150. It's not been moved to a friends house where it wont be messed with until i sell it

Bummer. They (association and cops) failed to notify the owner, Does it have fees? I would seek reimbursement. They also should give 72 hours, not 24.

If you park a junker at the crub here the local law enforcement will put an orange sticker on it and give you three days to move it before they tow it. You would think the homeowners association would have a similar rule. If not, at the next homeowners association meeting I'd bring this up for discussion!

Or start arbitrarily towing their cars to illustrate the point, hehe.

Seriously, I would think that there would be a 72-hour minimum, 24-hours is not a "reasonable amount of time", which is usually the verbiage.

I like Rolo's idea. I would,..oh say,.. follow them to see where they go and see if they,...oh I don't know,.. illegally park somewhere and get there piece of sh(# towed and see how they like it.

Like at Block buster when they go to return movies and leave the car paking in the "FIRE LANE". If you have these in your area.

Of course you would have to get the tow truck driver and insentive to tow these cars. Like maybe $50-100 pocket change per car he gets.

Or you could report one of thier cars as being "STOLEN" and have another police department put out and ABP or whatever. This will make the driver of the car have alot of inconviences the next time they go to the supermarket and get pulled over and checked, they will even search the car if they feel like it.

Cops walk all over everybody without regard for people. Happens all the time down in my area.
