Who's arguing?

You posed a question, and I offered another point of view.....that's all.

I wouldn't make the thing into who paid what for what. believe it or not, some people are very successful and pay for their things all by themselves, or if they want them bad enough, they bust their butts and earn them.
I know many guys who drive a $50k+ H2 yet live in a tiny apartment and work at walmart.

If using my dad's Chrysler employee (retired) discount counts, then I suppose I got help. Otherwise, it was my hard earned $$ and good credit rating.

Maybe this post should have also stated "who paid for their Cruiser BUT still lives at home?"

No kidding! I knew a guy, 27 I think he was at the time, who bragged about this new BMW 3 Series he just bought. Yeah, I thought, a $500/mo car payment is no big deal, when you're living with Mom & Dad, paying them no rent, and letting them pay for all your food and clothing. No thanks. I mean, I love my parents and all, but I just can't imaging doing that at that age. Still, cars were a bit cheaper when I was that age, and goodness knows housing sure was! I can't imagine what it must be like now, especially here in Southern California, to try and move out in your early to mid 20's when even a crummy apartment can set you back $1000/month.

How people choose to spend their money is always one of my favorite topics. In this case, you might SEE a person driving a Viper but you might not know he lives in a shack, eats plain pasta for every meal, and works two jobs to cover the costs. I've got a friend who literally has $5000 worth of makeup in her home but doesn't own a car. Her theory being: someone might steal a car or entertainment system but they aren't going to steal her cosmetics so it's a safer investment.

I fronted the cash for my PT. I also fronted the cash for my first car, which I just gave to my parents. I sure hope getting that station wagon from me doesn't ruin their work ethic or appreciation of a dollar.

HAHA OMG, there is one here, too! I swear the H2 is bigger than the owner's house!

Ah, whatever floats your boat, I guess....

...or sinks it.
