I must have missed it too. Last time he posted was on the 23rd. Maybe on vacation?

I think we need a list of those on suspension.

You know like a timeout box. If you get suspended its for a certain amount of time (days or weeks), with a time keeper next to your name showing how much time is left on your suspension.

Hey Jody what about using "*&%#%(" when you are substituting for certain words that most of us find offensive?
I do not think its appropriate. I mean each time I read "WTF" it sorta rubs me wrong.
Don't get me wrong I am not a person that is offended by bad language,
I work in a business that it is normal conversation to use such verbage.
But when I get on line I prefer it being a little more subtle.

What say...anyone else with me???

Do you think we should be more carefull?

You were the teacher's pet that everyone hated, right?

Please take this in the lighthearted, constructive manner in which I mean it. In other words, do not be offended and miss the point and a potentially interesting discussion.

First, I believe it is presumptuous of you to claim "...most of us find offensive" and take it upon yourself to be the spokesman for the whole community.

Let us look at what you are saying: first, "WTF...sorta rubs me wrong".
Next you state that you are not offended by such language as you are exposed to it regularly, which conflicts with your first statement.
Last, you suggest more subtlety. A string of red bold symbols is far less subltle than the inconspicous, flowing "WTF".

I take it you read comic books growing up? The random symbols are the accepted form for "bad language", hence your comfort-level with it. Casual communication via the Internet and BBSes (pre-Internet) has accepted acronyms as the standard subltety. Therefore, you perceive "WTF" as being "more bad" than $&^#^@^*!! even though they are the same thing, just on different media.

What amuses me about these idiosyncratic cultural mores is that we all know what the author is saying, they all prompt the same thoughts.

It is like, "Oh! You have such a 'dirty' mind!"
"What!? We both thought the same thing, only I just thought it first!"

Of what exactly? Blanket policies dehumanise communications on so many levels by placing more attention on "rules" than on intent and fellow participants. If one's intent is to offend someone, they will do it, with or without "bad language". Because something contains "bad language" as you perceive it, does not mean they had ill intentions. You cannot legislate respect.

Again, this is not a personal assault. I am a GenX'er and asking "Why?" to everything is what we do. It can lead to some interesting insights.

Oh, and I was wondering about Gary04GT too; I have noticed the void he left.
