Default well theres goes my radio

entertainment, [:I]

Clear Channel Suspends Stern's Radio Show , 1 hour, 6 minutes ago.

On the eve of a House hearing on broadcast indecency, the nation's largest radio station chain suspended shock jock Howard Stern's show, saying it did not meet the company's newly revised programming standards.

The company on Tuesday fired the DJ known as "Bubba the Love Sponge,"[xx(] whose show drew a record fine of $755,000 from the Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites). The program aired in four Florida cities and included graphic discussions about sex and drugs "designed to pander to, titillate and shock listeners," the FCC (news - web sites) said.

John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio, said in a news release. "It was vulgar, offensive, and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency."

Isn't it ironic that the shows that are so offensive to everyone just happen to be the #1 rated shows on the radio [:I]. they just happened to have the guts to go against the fcc and talk about things that most people do with thier friends, maybe I'm just not easily offended who knows

I couldn't get Howards show here, but before i moved to Florida I used to listen to it everyday.
So finally had Bubba to replace Howard for entertainment while sitting in a.m. traffic and they can both shows....blah, no point in hooking my antenna back up now.
Free speech as long as you only say what the government wants the masses to hear gotta love it[xx(]

just for fun i'm going to check Clear Channel stock, and watch it drop to worthless in a hurry ....Last Trade: 43.44

Seems Bubbas show is working with XM radio for exclusive rights.

Bubba was fired here in Atlanta before he showed up in FL.

Howard is still on the radio right now here in philly. Is this a replay of an older show or something? I'm a little confused....

I heard on the local news just a few minutes ago the ClearChannel suspended Stern in some markets (San Diego for example) but his show is still available in others (Los Angeles). What the heck is that? I'm not a Stern fan (couldn't really care much one way or another) but selective censorship is just plain wrong.

If you don't like the guy, don't listen to him. Nobody is surprised to learn that Stern is the ultimate shock-jock, and you just can't please all the people all the time - Stern, Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, John & Ken....the list goes on and on.

If the FCC wants to be serious about their regulations then don't let someone like Stern do his show the way he has for as long as he has and now decide you don't like it.

The individual carriers (stations) buy the program. Some had a problem with him and some didn't which is why he's on in one place and not another.

Personally I'd be fine with him leaving the air, he used to be pretty witty and had some good bits but the last 4 or 5 years it's just less about his humor and more about the lame things people are willing to do to/with themselves on the air. It's a shame too 'cause he is a really funny guy.

You are correct - I misspoke (or mistyped, whatever). ClearChannel has suspended him from stations they own, Infinity Broadcasting has not. Infinity must really love this guy because back in 1995 they paid $1.7 million in FCC fines for Stern's on air violations.

Yeah there went my radio too straight out the window when I had my windows down.
I didn't listen to him much, I must have caught the commercials and skipped over it.

Sorry to hear that. Watch the rating drop.

Isn't that why we have preset buttons on the radio? If you don't like it - DON'T LISTEN!! Same with tv, magazines, newspapers, worldwideweb, etc. It's OUR choice (well, it used to be).

What would you do?? The F.C.C. has undoubtedly warned Clear Channel to clean up or face heavy fines. Clear Channel passed that on to Howard who laughed it off. Someone has to pay the fines and I don't imagine Howard would be willing to - so what choice do they have really?? [:I]

Exactly. Clear Channel wasn't willing to pay the fines and/or wanted to make a statement about their organization. Infinity Broadcasting apparently feels differently because Stern is still on-air on their stations and they've paid hefty fines in the past. Just depends on how you want to run your business.
