I'll be corrected, I'm sure -
Dr Waston is Microsoft software that is used for problem diagnostics.
Not needed. I haven't found it to be helpful. MY OPINION.

So in other words, it can be deleted and no harm done? I have a million of them.

You're correct QS. Doc Watson is a diagnostic tool. It's harmless and not all that big, I'd just leave it be. AFAIK no other system progs are dependent on it but with Windows you never frickin' know. What do ya mean by I have a million of them? Should only be one copy of it on your system.

OK all you smart computer guys/gals. Under my "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" at the very bottom of the list of programs is a list of about 20 that look like this:

Windows XP Hotfix KB826939 (and other numbers)

plus

Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q327979 (and other numbers)

What the heck are they and can/should they be removed?

Man, those are updates and some of 'em may be security updates and you don't want to uninstall them. Usually, if you are running Windows Update and it tells you new are updates are available - that's what is being downloaded and installed. DON'T REMOVE THEM!!

The old saying,

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

(does not include replacing perfectly good car parts).

Those particluar 2 are an Update Rollup for XP that contains several hotfixes and patches, and a hotfix for hangups with the video codecs.

Anything you want to find out what an update is, take the number behind the "KB" or "Q" and search the knowledgebase at Microsoft.
