so my dad was on facebook. he clicked an ad on the right that said "bill cosby died". a screen popped up warning him he had a trojan and to call microsoft at 881-884-4186. he's a smart guy so WTF.. he called and ran commands they told him to run. he followed along as they ran commands on his screen remotely, then they wanted $400.. seeing as he's on a $300 computer and has quite a temper, he hung up and called me instead. his temper likely saved him from losing money.

i did not get very far looking that number up, but as soon as i typed "881" in google, this popped up:
111111111111.jpg

he's not tech savvy enough to tell me (at all) what commands he typed, so i'm at a bit of a loss here. he did say he was watching along as the guy remotely worked on his computer.

he had no idea he was being scammed until i said "father you were being scammed. a malicious ad popped up and you fell for it. i don't know what you typed, or what he did, and i don't know what to say. the guy was a scam artist and you fell for it and it sucks"

i'm trying to figure a way to inspect it remotely but i really don't know..
he may buy a new computer now and give me the old one to inspect and play with.

i'm at a bit of a loss here. he's in florida and doesn't follow directions over the phone very well... usually he gets angry and ends up hanging up after telling me he's gonna throw it overboard and go back to the stone age. i'm at a loss wondering exactly how much good i can do with remote assistance and programs like combofix

Sorry Rob, but he might be liable for that expensive call "HE" made. From what I've heard at the Sheriff's office, people that tried to fight with the telephone company about the extraordinary charges were told that "they" were the ones who dialed the number and therefore are responsible for the charges.

MEANWHILE!!! (LOL)

my mother is over here freaking out because she started painting the wrong section of a basketball.. not just any ball, another special actual Bulls ball from another special Bulls game. i sent her on an errand and i'm painstakingly scaping the paint off with an xacto blade. she was scrubbing it with a fingernail brush and water and i'm watching the color come off... i may have fun airbrushing the ball back to hide her handywork..

it's like a parental problem day over here for me

he has a Trac-Fone that he refills monthly, so at least on the phone aspect he can throw it overboard and replace it.. i warned him though. he didn't seem too concerned about the phone though. he's now driving around florida changing a few bank accounts.

If you answered “yes” then parts car is a really good idea.

Today my role is in maintenance. While up on the roof of the D/C, attempting to fix a leak, I remembered that we needed to replace the belts on the exhaust fans. Not a bad day for January, overcast, very windy and 68 degrees.

It has been a couple of years since last replaced.

You have to go up on one end of the building using a 10 foot ladder on a second story porch and go across to the addition.
[IMG][/IMG]
Then use a 8 foot ladder to get to the units.
[IMG][/IMG]
There is some H/D screen you have to remove to get into the unit to replace the belt.

A shot through the vent to the floor 33 feet below.

Finally got around to do the front-end on my little Ford Ranger..it took me pretty much all day, but it was worth it, the old parts were really shot specially the shocks..

Right now, I'm working on a list of potential upgrade parts for my PT. Tomorrow is the start of Half Price Weekend at the local Pick -n - Pull.

I've got the following on my list so far:

Disc brake rear axle.
Rear sway bar.
Side trim for drivers seat.
Spare turbo.
2001 spare tire with aluminum rim.
2nd Gen satellite radio receiver and harness.
Various aftermarket stuff.
Spoilers, chrome spears, etc. for resale.

It's gonn'a be fun!
