Actually the abuse at issue was that the prisoners were forced to perform certain... actions on each other and were also physically.. well.. violated with foriegn objects in a most uncomfortable manner. It wasn't just that they had to strip down. While there's no love lost from me for any of those that have been sent to GB there is a certain amount of discipline and restraint to be expected from our soldiers that have this type of duty. And those chuckleheads have zero of either. I hope they are all stripped of rank and dis-honorably discharged.

Yes I would like them to be punished too.
I don’t think that physical abuse and violations of peoples body parts is a good thing. Its like telling someone to rape your daughter, its just not right.

Do any of us like getting a proctology examine?

Remember that this is a very small act by a very few of our soldiers!!!

Most of the soliers there are as upset as we are about the whole thing. That situation was reported by one of them to the authorities as they felt it was NOT humane!!!!

I have NO love for the terrorists in Iraq, but this was to MUCH!!! Unfortunally one of the big 4 media (CBS) showed the unfortunate photos and now the pictures are worldwide. This can't do anything but inflame the Muslim's in that part of the world.

Having spent 16 months in Vietnam, I know these things happen in a war. You've lost a buddy or two, you hate being away, and when you finally get your hands on the enemy,... What kept me "level" was the realization that the situation could be reversed, and what the Geneva Convention was all about. I did not witness any atrocities, but they occur in nearly every war. I certainly do not condone it, and examples must be made of those that did it so the word gets out to the mentally deficient that they will be punished.

We are not winning the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqi people or other Arabs.

If you are in the battle, thats one thing, but this is another.
I would, being the person I am, not like the prisoners, but never do anything to them.
However if Im "in the gutter" fitting to stay alive, then the gloves come off, you do what you have to.

No harm done stirfry! I figured you were just trying to make a joke but hadn't heard the whole story. And it would seem I messed up as well - initially I heard this was at GitMo, recently however I'd heard they were from prisons in Baghdad after we took over the city. Still no less deplorable but...

You said it QSD. I could be a little more understanding about it if this was a heat of battle kind of thing. I don't think we ever had a chance for a genuine "hearts & minds" success. They seem perfectly capable of thanking us with a handshake for removing Saddam while their other hand pulls the pin on a grenade. I have the sneaking suspicion that we're going to end up right back there snuffing out rogue tribal leaders and former Saddam Rep. Guard Officers we're putting in place, assuming we actually stick to our pulling out in June.

Beacon, I'm betting we don't get out in June of '04. We are still in Korea. [xx(]

If we do, it'll be like 'Nam when we pulled out - just walked away and let it fall - hardly Nixon's "peace with honor". We can't walk now, it's chaos. I hope we don't install Chalabi (sp) - if we pick an interim ruler, it'll be like Iran and the Shah all over again. I don't see a nice outcome.
