Saw it last Friday during lunch. It was the 1st showing and I thought it was a fair homage to both previous releases. There were several yelps as well as laughs from the audience.
The story plays out well with the previous films. I do think that viewing Predator-II as well as Predator-I would help solidify the backstory.

There wasn't as much gore as I had expected. The scare and terror level was very low key. We already know what the mosters are and their modis-operendi.

My only question regards the setting in Antarctica, compared to the quote from Predator "They only come when it's very hot, and it grows hot this year."
Maybe a buried pyramid in an unexplored desert would have worked better. Just my $.02

Hey MX-5, lighten up...that was just a scared girl in the middle of a jungle. Just like we have Eskimo's in the Artic and Aborigine's in the Australian desert, maybe the Predator's were/came down to more than one place. Besides, aren't we lucky that both species can breath in our atmosphere so they don't have to wear clunky space suits?

"They only come when it's very hot, and it grows hot this year."
One.
lets say that this pyramid had to REALLY heat up to thaw out, and that the "Laser Ray" they used to bore through the ice was also really hot, its possible that theses two occourences might effect the weather in south america ( where predator 1 happened).

Two.
Remember, were dealing with interstellar travel here. Its Extremely possible that once every 100 years the path of our planet 1) makes for a hot year, and 2) puts the planet in a favorable position in the solar system for spacecraft to approach it.

So, looking outside of our 85 year lifespan/memory its possible that "They only come when it's very hot, and it grows hot this year." makes perfect sense.

Besides, I think I remember someone in the film saying/explaining that a very long time ago, there wasn't any ice there until the ice age "hit". That was right around the time they had gathered the "group" together to tell them about the pyramid and where it was located.

Anyone read any of the AvP graphic novels. There's been a ton of story line about this confrontation even before the videogames and such. About time they did this. Marvel even had Batman and Superman fighting Aliens.
