And to take the "red light cameras" a bit further, some areas in Scottsdale, AZ now have cameras, that are not meant to catch red light runners, but to catch speeders. Long sections of road, known for speeds above the posted limit, are now getting some of these cameras that are to catch speeders above a predetermined rate above the posted speed limit.

There is also talk, serious talk, of putting "speed cameras" on some sections of freeway that are known to have cars going above the speed limit...some going above 200mph. The one section in particular that the DOT is thinking about doing this on has also had an excessive amount of deaths and injuries as a result of speed and accidents.

Aren't red light cameras a legal form of entrapment? I mean, it catches THE CAR, NOT THE DRIVER. If the citizen gets the ticket and signs it, then he admits to being guilty. If you just throw it away can they charge you with anything?? Heck, a Goodyear rep could've been out testing an alignment...it wouldn't be my fault he ran a light...but it would be good reason to kill him
Not necessarily. Depending on which state you live in, there are usually signs prominently posted telling you there are cameras plus you can't miss seeing those cameras either.

Also, many cities are now using multiple traffic cameras to take 2 pictures, one in front showing the car, plate, driver, and signal light, and one from the rear, also capturing the car, plate, and showing the signal light. A lot of cities also have speed sensors installed in the asphalt/road, so your speed is also recorded based on the time it takes you to pass one point to another. Some cities/towns still are using the front picture only cameras, so leaving off your plate defeats those tickets effectively and you will never know since they have no idea where to send the ticket.

However, if somebody else is driving your car (you still have to appear in court to contest the ticket), you will probably get off. After all, the judge can see that wasn't you in the picture. But some courts may want to know who was driving at the time (the garage employees, relatives, friends, etc). In those cases, you MAY have to do the legwork and come up with a name/person.

My point was - How can they legally citate the owner of a car by mail, if in fact, the owner of the car wasn't necessarily driving at that time.
