Default Florida's new Nickname

To let you people who don't live around the hurricane area into the joke....when there's a threat of a storm coming our way, the lines at Lowe's and Home Depot to buy plywood to board up the windows is unbelievable. Now you might ask; what do people do with the old plywood that they bought for the last storm? That's one of mysteries of nature, I guess. [:I]

My wife and I were just talking about that....

I also read that the Iraq war had put a big drain on the plywood supply...

I think I'd have threaded rods put in window frames and drill holes in the plywood for the rods and and then put them up with wingnuts...

When I was a kid, every fall you'd take off screens & put up "storm windows" - but they were glass, just for more protection from cold, not real storms. In the Spring, you took them off & put screens back on - neither were my favorite tasks....

Thanks Jimbo. I think everyone has checked back in and I don't see anything on the horizon coming across the Atlantic for now so we can take a small break. Still thousands homeless and thousands still without power. There's relief efforts going on all over the place. Two more months of the hurricane season left, so I really can't see us going that long without another storm popping up.

Crewzin, my brother in Palm City sent me a US map that shows Florida tucked in between Montana and N&S Dakota with a caption that reads "Enough was Enough!..." I sent a reply that read, "wait 'till January!" [8D]

I got it from MANY of my friends up North, I told them I'd remember them when the snow is A$$ hole deep in January and I'm enjoying 60-70 degree weather sitting at the pool while they are shoveling snow.

I sent that one to my two sons in Missoula,MT and told them that they had no excuse now not to visit their grand parents in Port St. Luci! If it were only that easy! Good to see you made it through the hurricanes, and welcome back.[?]
