Yup. Good friend of mine in high school had (has?) a foster brother who had it. Don't know too much about it, but recall that one of the characteristics is involuntary "ticks." Jimmy's tick was in his mouth that he sort of "stretched" often, as well as a shoulder and head twitch. He was pretty developmentally delayed (about 4th grade level at age 18), but a very personable and well behaved young man.

I'm not aware of it causing any developmental delays, but other than the uncontrollable "ticks" isn't another sympton spontaneous verbal outbursts, often including swearing?

i've delt with it when i was a counselor's asistant at a camp for persons with special needs the summers after my freshman through junior years. the person who had it also had i belive down syndrome also but i do remeber the ticks and possibly swearing if i recall right.

but if it is swearing wouldn't the bartender from the movie Boondack Saints have it? (great movie still)

I believe one of my favorite Philadephia Phillies of all time had it . Jim Eisenriegt, who played right field for them, was afflicted but a nicer guy you couldn't find.

Yeah sometimes people's ticks include shouting like 10 cuss words in a couple of seconds. Dont mean to offend anybody, but its really funny

I was waiting for someone here to finally mention that swearing is a form of tourettes and is in fact the least common of all of them apparently.

Most commonly, there are the ticks, every one is different. Often muscle type of spasm that causes a part of the body to move uncontrollably. Usually resulting in lots of questions and funny looks at person with tourettes. People think tourettes is a disease that others can catch, but that is untrue, it genetically inherited.

Does anyone know of anyone on here that has tourettes syndrome?
