Default Trouble with the Charger?

I just read an interesting article over at www.jalopnik.com about the new upcoming Dodge Charger. It appears that it will come off the same platform that the Magnum and 300 come from but it will be a 4-door?

I am pretty sure that all the Chargers I saw in my childhood were muscle cars. My brother had one that was a MONSTER! It was loud and fast!

Now they are coming out with a 4-door version. They shouldn't have called it the Charger. They should have named it something else. My plan would have been to bring it out as the "Magnum sedan." then they could bring it out later down the road as a "Charger" but only have 2 doors.

What do you guys think?

They use the word "sedan", not Coupe, so sounds like 4, not 2 doors.

This has been covered in the car mags and online. Most Mopar guys agree a 4-door shouldn't be called Charger. Car & Driver says the email is 30 to 1 against.

From pics of the concept car, it's hard to tell it's a 4 door

So it's like an RX-8 with rear "suicide doors"? [:I]

That picture is supposedly of an early design study and not what the new Charger will look like - which I think is a shame 'cause that's a pretty cool looking 4 door. I've seen other pix of that same car and it was indeed a 4 door. But I digress..........

Car & Driver seems pretty well convinced that the new Charger will be much more square shouldered than the above pic, and their images show something that looks much more like the current 300C, but with definite changes to make it look a bit more swoopy and "coupe like". If I get a chance over the weekend I'll scan the cover image of the car and post it here.

I think M-I-O'S right. The influence of the older Daimler Deiter Designers is taking over. I think the actual Charger will be more of a 300C clone than the sporty 2 door that the Charger should be. Somewhat disappointing!! [xx(]

Nope, it's a 4-door.

The 2-door market has been dying off lately.

The Grand Prix and Neon are two examples I can think of that no longer offer a 2-door option.

What would people have thought if Pontiac would have rolled out a 4-door GTO?

Honestly all real muscle cars, have 4-doors, if you're counting the hood and trunk.

I agree the Charger should be a 2-door only. Maybe there's not enough of a market for that?
