Default What is wrong with this?

I had a Kodac moment when I took out my helper for lunch and gave him a well deserved bonus. He got watery eyes and told me he never got that much from his parents for Christmas. It was only 100 bucks, but he was more than gratefull for it. On the other hand (now I'm not picking on my son) mey son was disappointed that I got him the $99 a pair Oakly sun glasses rather than the $189 ones he wanted. What is wrong with this picture? My kid is a good kid, he is just clueless on what the values are all about for the holiday. Gary

Garys helper ONE!!!, Garys Son ZERO!!! Gary don't take it personally from your son, possibly IF he would have been with you when you took your helper to lunch and heard HIS thanks, he would appreciate the less expensive glasses. I tell my grandkids when they turn up thier noses at something we are eating "Guess you haven't ever been hungry, eh?". We all try to give our kids MORE than we had at that age and they don't appreciate it at all. We can only pray that they learns soon!!!! My .02!!

[:I] I have a dumb question. Besides $90.00 whats the difference between $99 and $189.00 sunglasses???? I Mean they both darken they both probly have UV protection, or is like Starbucks 4.00 coffee vs 7-11's .89 coffee. it makes the yuppies feel superior to us working stiffs that cant afford mega-buck status symbols.

My son is a good kid, too, but he is also sucked into the advertising hype. I never even heard of Oakley sunglasses 'till my son mentioned them, drooling. I asked how good can they be? why are they better? That stumped him.
Your son, like mine, listens to too many ads...

Bwahaha. Thats hilarious. TJMaxx is awesome. Ebay can be better.

Tell your son to suck it up. If he really wants those Oakleys he can go buy them himself. I wanted Oakley Juliets since I was 16, then finally when I was 19ish I could afford them. I appreciated the hell out of them then!

Actually, Oakley sunglasses are truly fine pieces of eyewear. Back in my bike racing days that's all I wore. Today, Oakley is a client of mine and I handle a few million pieces of mail for them annually. I live just a few minutes from their corporate offices and visit them regularly. They also make prescription glasses and I was recently given a couple of pairs (I absolutely LOVE this client, by the way), both sunglass and regular, based on my prescription (full retail for the combined pair, with Rx lenses was probably close to $600). The optical quality surpasses anything I've ever owned, and I've worn prescription glasses for over 35 years - NOTHING even comes close.

No, Oakley products aren't cheap, but they are truly outstanding.

Having said that, it is pretty sad that someone would be "disappointed" to not get the particular pair they had their heart set on. I'm sure the pair Gary got for his son are awesome nonetheless.
