I had an 84 Dodge Turbo Z. Really liked it but sold it to buy an SHO in '91

I really liked the SHO's, too bad they never made one in wagon form. I'd love to have one as a 'work' vehicle.

CJJ Do you still have the SHO? I have a Gen II 5spd. My wife HATES it and wants me to sell it but I never will![8)]

Mine was a 91 five speed. I also had a 97 V8. The 91 was a much better car. They really cheapened the V8's. That's why I bought the PT. There was a fatal flaw in the V8 camshafts which would cause the cam gears to come loose and spin leaving the valves to meet the pistons so I got rid of it and got the PT. I don't regret it. I'm having a lot more fun with the PT GT. Unfortunately, while the 91 was one of my favorites, it was getting pretty long in the tooth. 160K and a lot of expensive things were happening to it. It needed $1K to get the air conditioning working again. Front and rear struts were on their way out and I was starting to hear expensive noises from the engine. I thought about keeping it for a project car but parts are getting hard to get. There are only a few places where you can get replacement parts. I also thought about pulling the engine and making it into a coffee table--It is a thing of beauty. But my wife shot that idea down so to make a long story short I sold it and got an 05 WRX, so now I have another car to help drive me to the poor house. I will probably regret it--Jay Leno predicts it will be a collector's car someday. CJJ

Yes

I have 4 Daytonas; 86 Turbo Z CS , 90 Daytona ES Turbo, 90 Daytona Shelby VNT, 85 Daytona Turbo Z, A 89 Shadow ES Turbo, 89 Spirit Turbo

Plus the 03 PT GT and a 00 Durango SLT+ and 02 Grand Cherokee

I just restored the 89 Shadow. Striped it to the shell, repainted with Spies Hecker BAse Clear. Put a 2.5 .030" over, Mahle pistons, ditched the balance shafts, put crank scrappers, windage screen, opened the oil pump hole. Everything machined. Have ported exhasut manifold, Garret T2 turbo, 2.5" SV and exhaust. Also did the complete
suspension, new rack, line, ball joints, tie rod ends, KYB Struts/shocks, SS Flex lines etc. ALso put a A555 with moly plate in it, T3/T2 clutch/PP. Used a 89 CSX intercooler. Car had 192K miles and engine needed a head gasket but was in pretty nice shape. However I decided to thouroughly rebuild it. Also ran new brake lines and the gas tank, fuel pump(Walbro 255ltr/hour) were repalced before.

Have about 1000 miles on it so far, car hauls ass even with the stock 2.5 T1 cal. Have a 15 PSI TU cal on order and will upgrade to a 3BAR Map with +40's and 20 PSI cal later on.

I did the essentailly the same build up to my 86, but didnt get as deep in the engine, just regasketed everything since it only had 120K miles on it. Used a 3" exhaust instead of the 2.5" Will have the 86 painted this year.

Next year I will build up the 90 ES. will use a super 60 or something that size and also have a Large NPR to stuff in the nose. Have a A568 in the basement waiting to go. Unfortunatly I can only do them so fast, it is nice to have many cars, all paid for

BTW, In the last month or so, I have been contacted by a couple of people looking for info on these cars, one guys is writing a book on Shelby and wanted info on his development with Dodge and another is a writer from Hemmings. Guess he/they feel these cars are probably the next good investments for performance cars which are likely to appreciate in value over time.

Mike
