Does anyone know of a website where I can find out what is legal or illegal to put on an automobile in the state of Maryland? [:I] I would like to put neon on and under my car, tint the glass and such, but I do not want to spend all the money if I'll get a ticket every time I pull out of the drive. A grateful thank you in advance to anyone who replies to this post! Cruise On! [8)]

I wasn't able to find much, but you could go to http://mva.state.md.us and shoot them an email.

snooped a bit but 'bout all I could find is the following:
YEAR 91 (possible the law's been updated since then but don't have a current copy of MD state Codes so I'd suggest contacting MSP if you want to be 100% certain you'll be legal) TYPE NET (Measuring standard) WINDSHIELD 5" (From top of windshield) F.SIDE 35% B.SIDE 35% REAR 35% Don't know if they have a medical waiver to drop it lower as we do in VA, but 35% should be enough for ya ![]() |

As far as Neon, I can tell you about Florida laws and it should be about the same for other states. No red or blue ANYWHERE while driving on the streets (except for parades and ceremonies). On the road, white or amber ONLY for the front and rear, not to interfere with the existing lights.
When I lived in Maryland (not sure if they changed) tint as dark as you want on the rear passengers and rear window. Front windshield, driver and front passenger windows have to let enough light through so the people inside can be seen front outside the car. As was said, you should check with local laws on the percentage of tint, and neons, with local or state law enforcement. |

If you're hanging out with your buddies at your local chicken shack, you can have all kinds of neon..... as long as you are parked. But once you're rolling the laws are written to favor your original equipment lighting. The lighting and reflectors are first and foremost "safety equipment" and it's bad juju to get it in your mind that they are for making fashion statements. There are a few little things you can do such as the turn signal lights in the side view mirrors, etc. but go too much past that and you're pushing your luck, legally speaking. It doesn't matter what your friend got away with or what you saw rolling through town one starry night.
If you are that starved for attention, the police will give you some, no doubt. But if you must, at least put that neon on a separate switch so you can pick when and where you do your light show. |

Surely you can find a certified inspection mechanic in your area that has the same interest as you and he can fill you in for the restrictions.

Arkansas is pretty easy on most stuff at the state level except for blue lights. Those will get you a stretch in an orange suit picking up trash on the side of the highway.
There real problem in Arkansas are city and county ordinances. If you black out your headlight, tail lights and/or windows, don't go into rural areas. You may be stopped, written up and locked up until someone brings the money for the ticket. And for a little extra money, they will make the ticket where it's not a moving violation so it doesn't go on your driving record. Yes, Lewisville, AR, I'm talking about you. ![]()
