For your 06 TOURING PT. Someone told you that you have no spark plug wires? Whoever did, stay clear of anything else they tell you. Under your upper manifold there's a coil pack with 2 coils and 4 tips (one coil per 2 spark plug wires) . These tips connect to 4 spark plug wires which then go to each of your 4 spark plugs. The coil pack is pretty strudy and rarely fail. Sorry, but you sound unexperienced in auto mechanics, so I wouldn't recommend that you try the spark plugs change yourself. If you want to do your own maintenance, see if there's a PT club in your area where someone who's done some work and is willing to help you out the first time. Haynes only put out 1 manual for the earlier PT's, 2001-2003 I believe. You can do a search for "Manual" on this forum and if your handy with a computer, you can download the full manual that someone has posted a link to.

its not that i am inexperienced, it is just that i couldnt see any plug wires, or a distributor. i was told that there is a coil pack at each plug, aparently this is not the case?
thank you for the info on a manual, i just like to have one so if something does go wrong i can figure it out before i take it in, that way i am not paying for something i dont need to. thanks again. |

Quite sure there are both Haynes and Chilton's for the PT.
Mechanically, they haven't changed much over the years. There are crank and cam position sensors - they send signals to the computer which triggers spark.

You have to remove the intake manifold to be able to get to the plugs and wires. Good luck, and don't pay attention to the "Bashing". Really you need to go somewhere where someone can tell you exactly how to go about changing the plugs.

any thoughts on what brand of plug wires i should get? obviously need better than stock, so any ideas would be good, more bang for the buck so to speak.
and has anyone on this forum added a cold air intake such as K&N or Airraid to thier cruiser? is it worth the cash? thanks |

I just changed to Champion 7570 plugs. I felt that with 40,+ miles they should be changed. I put MOPAR Performance wires on it after 500 miles. Maggie at raceandstreet.com carries Crane wires. Many have got Cranes from her.
I have AirAid, increased my highway mileage 3-5 MPG. Makes it sound good too !!

You can order MSD wires from local Autozone for under $50 with a 5 year warranty. Can't beat that.
I installed Airaid on my 07. Cost me $170 shipped. It's a half decent upgrade. Makes a healthy growl and picked up maybe 1 MPG. Makes a barely noticable power increase, but if I do any more power mods I know it'll help exponentially. Thinking about cams or supercharging in the future. |
