I am planning putting on duals (Mopar/Borla) this summer. However my son who is renowned as a VW tuner warned me about the decreased back pressure as our turbos need it to produce good power in the low to mid-range rev range. Any comments on that? What about those of you who have done only the dual exhaust installation on a GT? Any performance give up?

Thanks!
Remember, these are not true dual exhausts. A true dual runs from the engine back in a single pipe X 2. I find no decrease in the power with my Borla system on my '05 GT. In fact, with traction control in the off position, the front tires can burn rubber for almost 100 feet. I was on a Dodge Magnum Hemi's bumper up to 100 MPH on the turnpike here in FL. The guy driving the Dodge couldn't believe it. Do it...you'll love it.

Is your only drivetrain mod the dual exhaust system, no chipping, Stage I or air intake stuff?

Also, your trip with the Hemi Magnum surely wasn't from a standing start, though, just 60 to 100 accelerate, right?

The only mods done to my '05 PTGT auto were, K&N filter, Borla Dual exhaust (split off the muffler - not true duals) and I've been using Mobil 1, 5/30 synthetic oil since the first oil change (I use this in all my cars).

The Hemi and I just got on to the turnpike after us both being behind a slow old fart driver on the on ramp. I knew the Hemi was going to hit it. So we both went WOT from about 30 MPH. I was on his bumper up to about 100 MPH when we both let up. My guess is my GT would probably start to run of wind anyway as this car was really designed as a great 1/4 performance car. It would be interesting to know what the power to weight ratio is on my PTGT and the Dodge Magnum Hemi. My GT NEVER ceases to amaze me. I love it. I guess that's why I'm inquiring about the Stage 1 setup.

Bados:

Thanks for the response. Your run with the Hemi was noteworthy, but certainly wouldn't have been the same outcome from a standstill. But I agree, driving the PT GT is just plain bad-ass! It's is fun to "dog it" to about 15 mph then go WOT.....just a few cars can keep up! Bested a Porsche Boxter last night.... The look on the driver's face was priceless!

Don't know if I'll sell this PT next September at lease-end like I did with my '03 PT GT. Or keep it, as I should have done with my '65 426 Hemi....

Well MOPAR43, Look at the power to weight difference. You might be surprised!

Granted the power to weight is interesting, but I'd still have to think the torque and RWD configuration of the Hemi (as in the case of your 'Vette) would rule the day off the line against the FWD PT GT HO.......... Have you ever run your two autos off against each other or against the clock, Bados?

P.S. We have gotten a bit off the original subject, but this discussion is interesting and helpful to me!

Yes, a bit off the subject! No I never have run the two against each other. The weight actually is similar. There would be no contest between the Vette and the GT. The Vette is extremely fast.
