My opinion (but you know what they say about opinions) is that you'd be a fool to try something like that yourself. Looks up convertible tops in the yellow pages ...or the new Yellow Pages Local Directory - YELLOWPAGES.COM and ask a professional shop to give you an estimate.

i thought some of the convt owners spray a water proofer on the top . they make a product for converts - how well does the 303 product work or the raggtopp product

Don't know about the 303 product your referring too. A water-proofer would be easy like putting Scoth-Gard on your seats. it doesn't matter if you miss a spot or use it too heavy on another spot, it dries all the same. Anything with color would have to be done perfectly or it will look like a little kid with water colors attacked your top. Not saying it can't be done, but if it comes out blotchy or with streaks, it will look like heck and you'll end up either dying it black to cover it up or buying a new one. $$$$$$$

i agree a dying job would be risky but i was interested in a non-tinted clear waterproofer that has a darkening effect as a quality .

I wonder too! But, I'm gonna find out with RaggTop over the holidays. I have a new (1 year old) black vert with tan top. The RaggTop cloth kit comes with a cleaner, and waterproof treatment. Myself - I'm gonna be disappointed if it does turn it much darker.
